Thank you for pointing this out. I started another thread which discusses this type of misleading ad and the misleading ads from Funagain which which advertise the game as "AVAILABLE" only to link you to pages showing the game not available (even true with games out of print over a year). They get you to link to a page advertising over 30 other games by name as well as hook people into their sites with this misleading pricing and availablity BS.

Please see my thread at http://www.boardgamegeek.com/article/751203#751203 .

Could be fixed with simple policies prohibiting these practices in text ads (porn and popup links already prohibited).

CardHaus.com told me it was only supposed to be a seasonal price and should have been taken off a while ago. Now, this was a couple of weeks ago and I noticed last week that they wrong price was still showing in the ad.

FYI.

We should just start demanding the game be sold at the advertised price. Isn't that a law or something?

Our apologies for that ad not being adjusted.

The $34.00 price was the original price based on Eagle Games' initial price for Railroad Tycoon. They then raised the MSRP of the game but we forgot about this corresponding ad.

It has been fixed.

Best regards,

Hmm... I guess there is a similar explanation for the Settlers 3-D being advertised for $350 but sold on your site for $400? Possibly a similar explanation for advertising prices on a lot of games that are out of print or not available?

Absolutely. The same issue is involved.

We have just under 1,000 text ads here and, while we try to keep things straight, there are some problems.

(I have fixed the Settlers 10th Anniversary ad.)

As for the OOP titles and not-yet-released titles:

- For OOP titles, sometimes we do actually have a stock of the items after they sell out other places. (Example: Runebound 1st Edition - we had stock of that for about 2 months after most other places didn't.) But most of the time we just fail update our ads when an item goes OOP and we are out of stock - not because we want people to try to order items we don't have any more, only because we dropped the ball and didn't update our ads.

- Sometimes as item is only out of stock at the manufacturer and we link to a pre-order page.

- This second process occurs for pre-released items as well. (Example: Caylus - it was scheduled for release in December. We sold pre-orders for the product. Rio Grande pushed the released to later in January - we continue to sell pre-orders and have noted the change in the release date.)

--------------------------

We will work to update our ads in a more timely manner.

If you note an ad that is mis-priced or linked to an out-of-print item, please feel free to email me here and we will adjust it as necessary.

Sorry for any frustration this has generated.

Best regards,

Cardhaus.com

Well thumbs up to Eric for fronting up about the issue.

BTW I have no affiliation to Cardhaus and have never even been a customer.

That should be thumbs up to Arun and Greg, I think. Cardhaus hasn't fixed problems like this in the past when they've been pointed out more privately and/or less insistently. Hopefully, they're turning over a new leaf rather than just making a show of quickly/apologetically correcting the most conspicuous example of a much more pervasive problem. I'm open-minded as to those two options, but I'll be watching. Always watching, LOL.
