So my wife and I just played our first 2 games of pandemic last night... we were beaten relentlessly. I have never had so much fun losing! our first game was great; love the medic and quarantine specialist. The second game we got SO close to curing the last disease then lost after drawing the last player deck cards...

Mentally this game keeps you guessing and the dynamic of working with my wife and talking about future moves and strategy through each turn was a great team building exercise. Usually she gets pissed after i ruin her plans for some victory point or conquer... but in this we were throwing around high fives like they were going out of style.

The character cards are interesting too, in a 2 player game i found the "dispatcher" useless ( for now) but i can see in 2+ player games of pandemic that certain cards could help immensely. The medic is a badass viral street sweeper, that is a great player card.

I have been looking at reports of the "mis-print" game board, i was a recipient of this but i guess at this point i dont see it as an issue for us. I can see the side of "...makes it harder for viruses to spread..." and "... makes it easier for the player..." but kinda at a moot point right now...

I love the new clear plastic cubes, and the detail on the player city cards is outstanding. Details like population in the city and people per Km... fantastic... ( will try to post a close up of a city card)

The mechanics of traveling city to city and exchanging city cards with other players can be a tough thing to understand ( at least i thought so) but comes eventually....

Nothing is more satisfying then pulling an infect city card of a disease that has been eradicated. And finding a new game that brings us together is a unique dynamic and quite welcome.

I hope you have complained to Zman and gotten your replacement board already, or are at least aware that a connection exists between Sao Paulo and Lagos.

Keep on gaming!

Plus it wouldn't make sense having two isolated areas of the same disease forming randomly

Good to see you enjoying the game!

Dispatcher is definitely worse in 2 player, but far from useless (try a tag team of Medic+Dispatcher and see how effective they are, to get an idea).

That was the setup, my wife cannot play anything other than medic ( i told her the downsides) so i played random and pulled the dispatcher and still could not wing it.....

Update: We finally won on 4 epidemic (normal) difficulty!! WOOT!

I got Contingency planner ( not bad, useful) and she was medic again... we lucked out with getting continuous pulls of a few same Color cards then met up to exchange in various cities and using the contingency abilities i was able to get the gov't grant card twice and place research stations that made it easier to transport us around the map.

Its hard to say but, i think this just bumped Carcassonne as my favourite game!

Are they sending new boards? If I were them I'd just send a sticker and maybe something else cheap as an apology.

Isn't 4 epidemics easy mode? Unless they reduced the difficulty in the reprint...

Yes your right 4 epi cards is normal, 5 hard, 6 elite. ( not sure if i would say easy mode, but "base" mode anyway)

As well, I was contacted by z-man games and they need a recipe for my purchase.... seems to make sense. Although since the game is not fresh produce or dairy i threw out the receipt and am now in a back and forth conversation.... i hope it works out. your right a sticker could work... to be honest i may just assume the connection or just deal with it....

Ah so they DID reduce the difficulty! It really doesn't matter since you can easily up the ante and add more epidemic cards (up to 7 if you have the expansion). I have only tried playing on normal (5 cards in the 1st edition) anyway...

False. The difficulty levels in the revised edition are the same as the original edition.

That was my group's first experience too. We had a group of 4, played 3 times in a row and lost every single game, but had an absolute blast! We wanted to play more but just didn't have time. It's gone on to be one of our favorite go-to games over the years, especially when we play really cutthroat games like Game of Thrones--kind of a cooperative cooldown to make sure we all remember we're friends. laugh

You might also find over time some rule or other you've mistaken. I don't know how clear the new edition's rulebook is compared to the 1st Ed, but after those first 3 games I found a handy guide on BGG of commonly-mistaken Pandemic rules. Of the mistakes we made, a good majority of them made the game significantly harder on us. One of them was actually a real game-changer for the Dispatcher--somehow on that first game night we all missed that the Dispatcher could move any single pawn to another pawn's location for 1 action. It's right there on the card, but nobody noticed it. That move made him one of our favorite roles because he's best able to set up card trades and orchestrate cures.

Congrats on finding a great game!

I take it this is a really fun game coolwhistle

I've seen this at my comic shop a few times and I've been meaning to get it. It sounds like a really interesting game to play. I'll get it in a couple of weeks (while I pick up my Batwoman issue).

Cheers!
