I heard about this site and these mash-ups on NPR last week.

http://googlemapsmania.blogspot.com/

This seems like a natural progression for BGG or the BGG community. I see a worldwide map that could include the following:

Public Game Groups (location, time, details)
Boardgame conventions (ditto)
B&M game stores that sell boardgames
Designer locations/birthplaces with a brief bio or link to more bios (I'd love to see designer bios here, with links to their games)
Location of gamers from the database. (Doesn't have to be completely address-specific, to protect privacy)
Anything else the community wants to see and add.

There's all sorts of technical issues here. I'm volunteering to do nothing, as I don't have these skills. More info on how to is here

http://www.programmableweb.com/mashups

But I'd love to see it and contribute info.

The BGG GamerFinder already handles the location of gamers via their zip code to protect privacy and provides links to the users BGG profile. There is also a way to opt out but I forget where that checkbox is located anymore. One thing about this is that it appears that a lot of people on BGG do not show up on the GamerFinder maps so maybe that checkbox thing needs to be put into our profile to make it easier to find.

The other ideas Ward mentioned are good ones. I like the game group idea and the store locator as well. As far as the game group idea goes I think I'd like to see a new addition to our profile which allows us to list the game group(s) we play with and then include a link that would take you to the map showing the location. For public locations the map could show the exact location rather than just the zip code.
