A Why oh WHY did we play this?

(1) Well, I had an idea that if I had a game set out and ready to go that we'd start playing immediately and have time for more than one game tonight.

(2) I thought I was going to pick a light filler game to start with. Indeed it was light...

(3) I had this game on my shelf that I had purchased for 99 cents at a thrift store and needed to know if it was worth 99 cents of shelf space.

B Is it worth 99 cents of shelf space? No. The game mechanics are simple enough. Try to spend your money without getting more. (Anyone seen the movie, Brewster's Millions?) You do things like gamble and donate to the poor house and pay rent to get rid of your money. But the chance factor is too high and the game is just silly. You rarely make it around the board before getting shipped off to the casino, horse races, or the stock market.

Sean won the game, by using a mixture of "playing it safe" on the go for broke game (where you keep rolling the dice to avoid ones), by using keen betting strategies at the horse races, and luckily hitting the hotels which cost $100,000 rent.

The only reason we had any fun is because we like to hang out together. I guess a little pain and suffering can bring you closer to your friends, right guys? I'm just glad that I started us out with $500,000 each for a "short" game to begin with.

C But wait, it gets better... A friend at work loaned me a copy of El Grande, which we played a couple of weeks ago. I still hadn't returned it yet. Brandon's quote for the night, "Look. He's got El Grande on the shelf over there and he's making us play this crappy game?"

I owe my friends an apology on this one. cry Sorry guys. At least one strategy worked. We had time for a second game (Alhambra). After all, if we only played this game for the evening, there'd have been NO gaming satisfaction whatsoever.

Which all goes to prove that I rule, when it comes to losing money!

I think it is an okay game. More for the Monopoly and Sorry crowd.
