Oh, it was a fine and fair day when the princes and princesses of the kingdom of elves set forth to travel across their great country. Each of them was young and full of confidence, sure that the paths would lead them to each and every last one of the countries.
Bunting and banners were hung from the towers and each member of the royalty had their own color to mark the coat of arms that they had chosen upon gaining adulthood. Sir Jay, a seasoned traveler, wore red, while noble Steve wore green. The Lady Carol-Anne chose yellow as her token while fair Brandie chose purple. Sweet Laura went with blue while Goodman Lowell, finding all of the other colors taken, wrapped a cloak of black around his shoulders and knew he would not be riding any unicorns on this trip.
The six princes and princesses poured over the map of the land, to carefully examine each and every path, as well as the nature of the beasts that trod upon those paths. Then they went forth, with mystical tokens that would grant them passage and safe haven on the road.
For the first two weeks of their journeys, each going his own way, there was much merriment and rejoicing. All managed to visit at least ten of the ancient and holy cities of the elven lands, partaking in the richness of the myriad cultures.
However, the third week was one of hardship. Many were trapped in the desert lands and there were no dragons to safely ferry them back to the shaded forests and green fields. Worse, the great swine of the land had become fecund and managed to spread across the fields and forests. Many prince and princess was forced to begger themselves using three times the normal number of magical tokens in order to satisfy the boars' great hunger.
The final week was one marked with desperation. After the week of deserts and boars, there was little chance for many of them to see all of cities of the land. The hope that had marked the start of their journey was gone and their banners hung low.
Sir Jay and the noble Steve seemed to be the closest to grasping the sweetness of victory. Although neither was able to see every city of the land, they both only missed but one and both found their weary way to their own home city.
However, the sweet Laura plucked any hope of victory from their hands as she did the same and was gifted with a plurality of magical tokens. There was much cursing of her name and nashing of teeth from her fellow royalty though her name was praised through out the length of the land.
