Looking to hold a Settlers of Catan Tournament in Sydney Australia sometime in 2006

Thinking of having a round-robin on the first day with each player playing 3 games

then on the 2nd day ceeding the players based on their day 1 performances

From the 1st round on the 2nd day we will have each winner progressing onto the 2nd round (say 16 players) and then the winners of these 4 games to go onto a final board played on a new 10th Anniversary Settlers of Catan chest board, with the ultimate winner taking home the Chest as first prize, along with a trophy and free entry to next years tournament

and 2nd, 3rd and 4th getting trophies, plus free entry to next years tournament

Would be hoping for 64 + players each paying between $15 and $20 each to cover venue and prize costs

What do you all think? any comments?
When do you think we should hold it, and how many people think they would attend?

Regards

Interested in playing, but no idea when/where to have it.

Once you have decided on location, cost and date, it might be worth making flyers and distributing to the most common board game clubs. The ones that come to mind immediately are:
Unlimited Hobbies, in Blacktown
The Tin Soldier, in central, and in Penrith
Games Paradise, in central
Sydney Games Centre in Eastwood. I meant Burwood.

I know that they have frequent gamers in all of these locations.

There's also a Sydney Games Centre in Burwood. I think they've had the occasional SoC tournament.

I think this would be great. However, I think it would be best to try and do it in one long day rather than over the two days of a weekend.

Start at say 9am, have three initial games done by 2pm and then have a semi and a final. Maybe finish around 7pm if all goes smoothly.

Sunday would be best so parents can come (Saturday is always kids sport day)

Location. no big deal something a little central (suburbs central that is). Plenty of free parking, near a macca's/cafe/food joint, out of the cold/heat.

Just my two cents worth.

Regards
