Anyone know where I can see a listing of a good One Ring/Mt. Doom deck - where you win by casting the One Ring into Mt. Doom?

Also, is it really feasible to play this kind of deck? I've heard it's pretty hard to pull off.

I understand the deck will need to include these cards:

The One Ring
Mt. Doom
Cracks of Doom
Gollum's Fate
Frodo?

Scott Langlinais devotes an entire chapter to this topic in his book Mastering Middle Earth: Strategies for Middle-Earth: the Wizards
from Wordware Publishing, Inc. ISBN 1556225598

He lists three different ring decks there, and discusses the general strategies. He considers it very doable, and something every player should try to do at least once.

It is very tough, though. I don't recall ever having accomplished it myself, although I think my wife did once.

It's basically impossible in a one-deck game. It starts being a realistic possibility in the two-deck game.

It's even tougher for a Minion player to retrieve it, if I recall correctly.

Probably the best place online for deck-lists is the MeCCG.net forum, an active discussion forum that frequently features posts from the world's most experienced and best MeCCG players. It is probably the single best current resource on MeCCG right now. One of the sub-forums has deck-lists submitted by experienced players, as well as discussion of these decks. You'll also find some One-Ring deck lists there:

If you post your question at MeCCG.net you are guaranteed to get some helpful responses.

Thanks for the tip, EndersGame.

I posted this question to meccg.net. Here's the answer, for anyone else who cares -

Look for "Dunk" decks on this page:
http://www.meccg.net/dforum/viewtopic.php?t=842

FYI, "Dunk" decks allow you to throw the ring into Mt. Doom to win. This is opposed to the standard "MP" decks, where you win by geting Marshalling Points.

DUNK DOABLE
Well, actually, Marc is right. One Ring, (aka "Dunk") decks are quite doable.

True, while it's a do or die deck (which can cause one's stomach to churn more than normal during MECCG), it is not hard to construct and is more straightforward to play than other decks and can be extremely fast, esp. if you know how to "smoke."

Langlinais book is a good primer on the subject, but it was written before (I think)"Smoke Rings" from the Dark Minions set and (definitely) "Longbottom Leaf" card from the Balrog set (regardless of what one thinks about the set) which allows you to put those key cards (One Ring, Cracks of Doom, Corruption check helper cards, Ring Test cards) into that thing we call the Sideboard. Hell, if the Sideboard exists for anything, it exists for making Dunks doable.

Mark Alfano, the resident deck loremaster of meccg.net has provided a good list is here: http://www.meccg.net/dforum/viewtopic.php?t=842.

In addition, Pierre Jonas Castillo (ed. Nigel Buckle) at Guild Companion has written on the subject as well (inlcuding on Minion, Fallen Wizard (Gandalf), and Balrog)--whether they "hold water," I dunno (I'm sure someone will correct me here)
http://www.guildcompanion.com/scrolls/2001/may/onering.html
http://www.guildcompanion.com/scrolls/2002/apr/onering02part...
http://www.guildcompanion.com/scrolls/2002/jul/onering3.html

(BTW, I would commend the Guild Companion and Buckle's articles in general to all newcomers to MECCG. They are, IMHO, the best documents on the game...to date.

In addition, if I may make a sales pitch, I think that this shows that the amount of good material available on the web and GCCG itself make MECCG a more viable "dead" game than it ever was when "alive." "MECCG is dead! Long live MECCG!")

Let me conclude by saying that not only is a One Ring very playable, but that it makes your opponent stop everything they are doing on their resource and hazard strat, and work like mad to stop you from "dunking" which is also a plus for doability.

IMHO, the only thing "difficult" (i.e. annoying) about it is having to play against it.

Good night and Good Luck Dunk

Here's a quick list off the top of my head.

Cards Needed(11)
The One Ring
Scroll of Isildur
Frodo
Gollum
Gollum's Fate
Mt.Doom
Moria or Goblin Gate(to play Gollum)
A site to play the Gold Ring
A site to play Scroll of Isildur
A Gold Ring card
A way to test the ring(Gandalf is one option)

Frodo should control The One Ring. To get this, you will need a Gold Ring card, a way to test it(like Gandalf), and, to help, the Scroll of Isildur. Getting Gollum helps because it's easier to dunk it with Gollum's Fate than with the Cracks of Doom.

Also, it is possible, though thematically incorrect to wait on testing the ring until the last possible moment.
