The monolith is that octagonal (??) paper tower that goes into the middle of the board. You have to construct it out of paper first, though.

Just in case you're asking about the meaning of the word "monolith":

Monolith is Latin and means "single stone" (or "one stone"). If you've seen the movie 2001, the big black thing at the beginning is a monolith.

A castle is made of many stones. A monolith would be a single, huge stone. In the case of Nexus Ops, probably the size of football stadium, but several times taller.

Oh, and you can find these things out by using Google or looking the word up at dictionary.com.

The monolith is the paper obstruction that blocks the hex immediately behind it, allowing the opponent opposite of you to pile up units undetected due to your slouching at the game table, and thereby retake control of the aforementioned monolith from you in a sneak attack!

My definition anyways.
