Subject: Does the Spawning Ground space get affected by Current Cards? rss

We had a game go down to the wire with three people close to finishing and we were wondering why the waterfalls near the spawning grounds had arrows to them if there was no way for Spawning Ground space be affected by Current Cards? Is it just bad art or can the space be affected? We deemed it a safe place since there were no arrows going from that space to the waterfall but an official rule would be nice.

Salmon in the Spawning Pond cannot be affected by the current. For gameplay purposes those arrows on the waterfalls adjacent to the spawning pond should be ignored.

They may come into use in the future

Not sure why there would be arrows there as you can never be in the waterfall space (unless an expansion will some day change that). The spawning pond is safe once you are there.

There are no arrows out from the Spawning Pond, so I think it's pretty clear that Current cards don't affect that area.

It is a bit strange that the waterfalls next to it have arrows out from them, since there's no way you would end up there at the end of a turn. Especially since on F2 one of the waterfall hexes has two outbound arrows but no dice indicators, so the graphic designers apparently knew the arrows wouldn't be used.
