VOTING IS LIVE

The committee has managed to dig their way through the nominations and pare every category down to 5 or 6 nominees. Now it's your turn. I've created three Survey Monkey surveys for you to go to. What I need from you:

1. Go to the URLs below.

2. Rank each category from 1 to 5 (or 6). Each player gets a rank. You CAN leave some ranks blank if you want. I will be normalizing all the unawarded ranks evenly amongst all the blank votes. The rankings are worth the following points.

1st - 5 points
2nd - 4 points
3rd - 3 points
4th - 2 points
5th - 1 point
6th - 0 points (if category has 6 nominees)

Individual Play Categories (9 Categories): - Click this to vote

Game Nominations(7 Categories): - Click this to vote

Overall Player Nominations(3 Categories): - Click this to vote

VOTING IS CLOSED (UNLESS YOU GM ME - I WILL GIVE EXTENSIONS TO INDIVIDUALS UNTIL SUNDAY, 28-APR, NOON).

Wait, how did Avin not get on the Player of the Year shortlist this year? No nominations? Or has he been slacking this year? Or other?

Must not have been nominated. I certainly played more games with Avin this year than I did last year.

I can extend the deadline to include the following weekend as well. I just picked a number and figured I would evaluate based on how many votes we had received by the 25th.

If we are nominated for a category, should we just not vote on that category and abstain? That feels right.

i approached this two ways. In some categories i voted on some of the other nominees in a way that ends up giving me an avg or lower than avg score. In others i abstained completely. Its your choice how you approach it - im not going to enforce anything.

A couple of years back when I was helping with the vote tallying but was also up for one of the awards, I just voted honestly and let the chips fall where they may. If you really think you were the best of the choices, then vote that way. Otherwise, vote the way you think is right.

Do I need to put in all my votes at once for each of the 3 major divisions? As an example, I'm currently working on Individual Play Categories and I've finished 3 of the categories. If I submit, do I lose the ability to vote on the others?

Yes. If you want, though, you could put in part of one set of votes, then GM me about continuing later. I think I can purge individual surveys, which would allow you to effectively restart, but I can record what your votes are already.

It's probably easier if you make an excel file or notes for yourself on where you're putting your votes on those questions, then bail on the survey for now. Then come back later, toss your votes back into place, and continue.

Some of the categories were really hard. I did notice a few things, though:

1) I based most of my decisions on the nomination post. If the nomination post was poor, I probably ranked it low.

2) I feel like I have a different set of standards than others. Some of the nominations seemed rather ... pedestrian. I won't name any names, of course, but it felt like some of the nominations were things that should be done by any normal player anyway. Or maybe it was good, but not great (and great is what I expect out of these nominations).

3) I think that if I were to rank them today and compare them to yesterday, quite a few would probably be slightly different. Many of them were that close.

4) In most of the categories, I definitely had a top 2 or top 3. As long as one of them wins, I'll be happy. If one of the others wins, I'll speak incredulously to my wife for at least 5 minutes. And that's a serious threat, too!

5) I'm really excited to see the results.

6) Who's going to start the new thread for 2013? I'd volunteer but I'm not at a point in my life where I know that I'll be able to keep up with something for the next 9 months.

Good luck to everyone who is up for a category!
