Re: Will Stefan Feld win a SdJ or KdJ?
When I read the thread title, I thought you were asking which of the two prizes he would win. If he ever wins one, I think it will be the Kennerspiel des Jahres. His games are just too dry and/or too heavy for the Spiel des Jahres (Rum & Pirates possibly being an exception).

What Glaucio said, his games are way too complex to win a SDJ.
I suspect that Bora Bora will be nominated for KeSDJ given all the hype, but I don't see it winning against Tzolk'in or my personal favourite Terra Mystica.

I've changed the title. Hopefully it's clear now.

I was curious about the SdJ since Brugge and Rialto are lighter than his usual designs. I also think you're fairly accurate about Tzolk'in and Terra Mystica. They seem to have that innovative flare which will give them an edge.

The initial mechanics complexity will likely hurt Terra Mystica, but T'zolkin has been a favorite for me to do rather well at the awards.

More importantly, will anyone really care if he does or doesn't?

Actually, the only Feld game to be nominated for a SdJ so far is Strasbourg.

Rum & Pirates was actually nominated for the Kinderspielexperten prize. The rest only ever received recommendations.

Woops... I had Rum & Pirates labelled correctly, but I fixed the rest.

In essence, I don't care either. I like quite a few of his games and a KdJ or SdJ award on his record isn't going to change that.

I was just curious what others thought because he is launching 4 games in 2013 (two of which are lighter than ordinary). Amerigo will be released after the 2013 awards. Four games is fairly substantial... unless your Reiner Knizia.

If someone is a fan, I think it is perfectly normal to care.

Bora Bora will probably get "Recommended" again, it's a great game, but not in that innovative way KdJ/SdJ like to honor. Brügge could probably get "Recommended" too with Menzel art and all.

The point is that many (can't say all, even if I'd love to, simply because I haven't played all of them yet) of his games are *great*. It's not a single glimpse of genius on a single game that gave him notoriety. All the games I played are very different, and implement clever mechanics, and are really well balanced and structured. So, sooner or later, I'm confident he'll be ackowledged in some official way. Go Stefan!
