So, a good friend of mine has a birthday coming up, I can't afford much, but I know he likes fantasy, he likes a bit of luck and a bit of strategy, anyone got any thoughts? Really don't want to go more then £15, £20 at a push (so don't suggest anything above that because I really can't stretch that ar,) it's ok if it's a filler game, as long as its fun, thanks!

Rune Age

Space Hulk: Death Angel – The Card Game

Either one would be perfect and under 25 quid

Not exactly what you are asking for, but: What my friends and me used to do is make a pool together, to buy one (or more) expensive gift whenever a friend has a birthday. Although it's nice to get many (cheaper) presents, in our experience it's even nicer to get just one or two that are really worth their money.

I have the nice looking Italian produced version of Fairy Tale, but the game fell flat everytime I wanted to play with others.

On the other hand Rune Age, Iliad or (for 3 - 5 players) Palastgefluster have been great hits.

How about one of the Summoner Wars base sets? Such as Summoner Wars: Phoenix Elves vs Tundra Orcs. Fantastic game with luck and strategy, inexpensive initial costs but very expandable, and an excellent iOS implementation to boot.

You cannot do better than a Summoner Wars starter set.

I would suggest you to get the PE vs. TO set because they are strong and straight-forward factions.

Citadels, has a bit of a fantasy theme, not orcs and elves, but a lot of the artwork is in fantasy style.

I actually got myself a copy the other day for £7.38 (i think, it was iguk.co.uk), great little game! Unfortunately the friend I'm trying to buy for wasn't completely convinced by it, and already owns Flux, so that's out! Fairy Tale looks interesting, but it seems to have mixed opinion, and I'm just not completely sure on it. He already owns Forbidden Island, i actually bought that for him before! I might be able to get some friends on board, still thinking, though Summoner Wars: Phoenix Elves vs Tundra Orcslooks like it could be interesting.

Rune AgeI don't know much about. It looks like it might have similarities to Dominion which I know he owns? I guess in theory I could look at expansions for that as well instead? Hmm...lots to think about!
