While we have threads for World War One Gamers, Ancient Gamers, Napoleonic Gamers, East Front WW2 Gamers, etc, I've noticed that nobody has bothered to start a thread for War of Jenkins' Ear Gamers. It's time to correct that omission. This thread shall serve as the gathering place for discussion of games on this fascinating but sadly under-represented subject.

Hopefully somebody will whip up a suitable microbadge so Jenkin's Ear Gamers can show the colors.

If I like the system enough, I would love to try Mistral: the Western Med 1740-48.

It would be cool to have a game based on the "Pig War", a what if things turned ugly, as in casualties beyond the pig!

I believe it was Ted Racier who, when asked if it a good wargame could be made on any subject, said he wasn't sure about that, and offered up the War of Jenkins's Ear as an example of such a subject. (I took that as something of a challenge, which I hope to tackle in the near future.)

This game could use a concept similar to Pax Britannica or Twilight Struggle which allows both players to push and prod in the hope of gaining a propaganda bonus without starting a major conflict.

No. It ended up joining the Austrian Succession War.

I haven't gamed WoJE yet, but I have serious plans so I'd like to be counted in.

Speaking of which, does anyone have any book recommendations? WoJE is mentioned many places in passing, but I can't find more than a few pages here and there. There are a couple older books on it that I haven't seen in person, but from Amazon they don't look very serious.

Enrico mentioned it above, but Mistral: the Western Med 1740-48 is the first of a planned series by Ian Weir and Red Sash Games.

The series is called Sea Lords and Ian said he is planning a title on the the War of Jenkin's Ear proper set in the Caribbean.

Not much of any info apart from passing references to his plans.

Check out the historical commentary on Mistral ... available for download from Red Sash website. Check out the Game Support Files section.

If you missed this title, the other one in the SEA LORDS series as of this writing is A Lesser Wrath/Sommar Skrala--it's a dual game with "A Lesser Wrath" being the land game in the Lace Wars series and the other (translated from Swedish to mean "Summer Squall") being the naval game at the operational level. I'd think both systems together might just do the trick.

Conversation was primarily around pre-Napoleonic conflict and covers the period including Jenkins' Ear and the conflicts over his various other parts and pieces.

I'm going magnetic for my implementation of the game:
