I'm starting this thread to get a general idea of what sort of things people would like to see in the future as stretch goals or expansions of the main HoN game.

DISCLAIMER: I do not represent DPG in any way, nor is this conversation in any way an official request for ideas. DPG have their own design plan in place; I'm just curious what others want to be able to play "someday."

THE TOTAL LIST (I will try to update this as others post)
French Resistance
Brandenburgers
OSS/SOE
Heroes of Stalingrad
the Inglorious Basterds (or reasonable facsimile)
ANZACS (Scots piper hitting the beach, anyone?)
a hardened Eastern Front veteran company, now posted to the western front
Commandos
Otto Skorzeny
Invasion of Crete (Brits and ANZACS vs. German paras)
French army
Royal Navy Commandos
Gliders as vehicles (Wacos, Horsas and Hamilcars)
Rules for flying and shooting at flying gliders so we can launch an actual airborne assault
A future Market-Garden expansion
Sgt Steiner from Cross of Iron
The eagle has landed (German special ops paras/spies?)

Anyone else?

Resistance and French army is at the top of the list for me.

Royal Navy Commandos

Gliders as vehicles. Wacos, Horsas and Hamilcars. Rules for flying and shooting at flying gliders so we can launch an actual airborne assault. If they can't be fit into St Mere Eglise or Pegasus, then put them in a future Market-Garden expansion.

Somebody else mentioned this. Skorzeny. Sgt Steiner from Cross of Iron.

At this scale, you'd need a HUGE map!

I'd love more Achtung! Cthulhu stuff. Fits so well with the movie feel of the game & the Nazi occult angle. I know not everyone is excited having the fantasy stuff but I think it adds a fun variant.

If you want to go with more fantasy stuff there's dinosaurs (Lost World theme) with jungle maps. Indiana Jones type heroes. Nazis wielding black magic. Would be fun to have a group of tanks taking on a group of T-rex!

This ! There are a lot of games out there that do the 'historcailly accurate' stuff allready (and do it well). For me the strength and appeal of this system is the tongue-in-cheek, pulp-action, comic/movie-style of the system.

'Indiana Jones'/'Lost World' inspired stuff would be great and more Cthulhu is always welcome...

Edit: The designers will have to find a balance between appealing to people interested in this kind of stuff and WWII purists who will be offended by more 'useless' strechgoals.

I would also like to see more non-historical additions: pulp, dinos, Czhulhu,...

More historical, with some real life heroes as the characters (Audie Murphy for example).

Maybe Pieper's allied and mock up vehicles for some Battle of the Bulge.

And an M3 named Lulubelle and some allied infantry fighting against a German Battalion for some North Africa fun.

Some of the actions in Sicily would be fun too.

Some of the ideas I see mentioned above honestly don't seem well suited for this game. The game seems to put the player into the role of a reinforced Platoon Leader or an under strength Company Commander. At that level, one side being a squad of guys or handful of agents just doesn't work. That is more suited for a skirmish game in my opinion.

Glider landings are also outside of the scope of the game in my opinion, those were huge operations. Playing a platoon after landing may be okay, but actually trying to handle the flight, allowing fire at the gliders, and simulating the landings is a little too much for the scale of this.

Good point, I am sure no one is looking for a Arkham Horror rehash here... But the potential mix of WWII and weird is what is interesting to me. Truth be told, I just want something like this:

I just want a castle to storm where nefarious things are occurring.

If it just so happens to be populated with zombies, evil cultists, spooky SS, ghosts of undead vikings, and dinosaurs wielding recovered alien technology, then so be it.

We'll need a well trained archeologist to put a stop to all this nonsense.

Again, castle storming is more suited to a skirmish game, where each playing piece is an individual trooper, not a fire team/partial squad. Trying to turn this into a weird war dungeon crawl just doesn't seem the way to go. Check out Incursion, it may be what you are looking for.

I could see it eventually used to do fighting in the big Volgograd tractor factory at Stalingrad, but in that case you wouldn't be clearing hallways and such like you would in a castle.

It is a "squad/platoon sized game". Do you realy think that a squad/platoon is too much to storm a castle?

Since Lovat is already included, I would definitely ask for the Commando Kieffer.

The scenario would have to be the taking of the Coleville(?) Casino as seen in the longest day.

Probably beating a dead horse at this point but here goes:

There are plenty of examples of heroes storming a castle that would be better suited for a skirmish game. But there are also plenty of examples of heroes leading a squad to take a castle (or do some other heroic action) that would be right at home in this system!

Captian America, Sgt. Rock (!), Howling Comandoes, Lobster Johnson, someone allready mentioned the cast of Combat! ...

All that beeing said, I think any further non-historical stuff (especially things like dinosaurs) would be better suited as a addon people can buy for money, rather than a free stretchgoal. The people that want this sort of thing would pay for it (I would) and the others (the majority of backers I assume) would have no reason to complain...

Scale? Nobody has said what the scale is. Somebody else said airborne landing are too big, they're out of scope. Well, we've got freaking D-Day, that sure isn't out of scope.

Besides, I'm not talking about super realisic physics of flying, HoN isn't that sort of game. Very simple MOVIE flying rules, like this:

On the turn the gliders appears, place a glider on any square. This is its landing square. The 10 (or 15 or whatever) squares behind the glider constitute its final approach path. Any enemy unit in range of this path can shoot at the glider before it reaches its landing space.
Toss in a rule that damaged gliders may have part of all of their cargo destroyed. Gliders unload on the turn after they land (so the enemy gets a chance to shoot at them). Oh yeah, one more rule for scatter, so they don't always land where you want.

The big gliders could carry armed jeeps, scout cars, troops, artillery up to 75mm. I just like the idea of the seeing one side thinking he's got everything figured out, and then 2-3 gliders drop in on him. It would only take a couple of vehicle spaces on a punchboard (maybe 3 glides, max), no big deal, but lots of tactical flexibility.

As always, YMMV.

Castles work for me. For those that aren't thrilled with the idea of supernatural castles, here are a couple of more historical ideas:

Colditz Castle-- used by Germans as POW camp-- we could have a rescue mission.
Clervaux Castle-- strongpoint and focus of a big fight during Battle of the Bulge. Here's a URL to a webpage of some guy that built a 1/35 scale diorama of the castle-- I could easily see how a castle could fit into HoN: http://www.diorama-clervaux.com/index.html
