Anyone got a suggestion for number of firefighters to play with when soloing?

I feel like one firefighter may be too little as it doesn't give you down time between advance fire for your plan to go bad.

Edit downtime, not downtown

I wouldn't use one firefighter. I've played the game with 2-6 players, and 5-6 feel like too much to keep track of if I was soloing.

So, how about, roll both dice, use the higher number, divide by 2 and round up? That way you get between 1-4 firefighters but your not always playing with the same number.

I prefer playing with 4 characters.

I use three firefighters when playing solo. One to rescue, one to put fires out and one to help out where needed.

I always play with four.

1. I use the CAFS through the whole game
2. Start with hazmat until the four hazmats are gone, then switch to rescue spec or medic
3. Driver alternating to captain based on need
4. Structural engineer (from Urban Structures expansion) is extremely powerful if you use hot spots. Once they're all gone (overpowered) I usually grab the other rescuer not used in 2, or the Generalist

The beauty of the game is you can play with a variety of fighters. Start with two and work your way up. I don't think there is a right answer.

I played this once with 4 (have since sold it as my group didn't take to it, unfortunately, but I enjoyed it). I laid out the color cards in front of me and used a marker to keep track of whose turn it was. It was actually quite enjoyable

I agree with the others, start with 2 and move from there

Just to clarify in case it is needed: Regardless of how many firefighters will be used, you advance the fire after every firefighter takes a turn.

Thanks all for answer seems like 2 is the answer.
Even with 2 players the second map with 2 entrance seems quite difficult so definitely will give it another chance.

True, but I feel the more firefighters there are the more advance fire rolls between the players. So it makes it less predictable until that firefighter's next turn.

No, one firefighter works fine. It's really a matter of taste.

There have been a couple of threads on this topic before. See Any rules for solo play and Why "For 2-6 Players" as printed?.

I would say 3 or 4 is the sweet spot for solo play - but it is very much personal preference, and any number can work well.

I usually go with 4 for the increased difficulty with extra hotspots. I usually start out with the CAFS Firefighter and Driver/Operator and my other two choices really depend on where the initial victims and/or Hazmat are with relation to the fire. Sometimes I start out with the Rescue Specialist if I need a quick chop to run in and grab somebody near the fire.

I've enjoyed it solo with 2,3 and 4 firemen. Decided roles randomly using 8 sided die for the 8 roles.

I noticed that the expansions were play tested primarily by playing solo with 4 firefighters-so maybe that indicates a sweet spot. I agree that solo with 5 or 6 firemen feels like too much upkeep.

I'm playing w/ 3. I use one Turn reference card that I shift from FF to FF as it is their turn. Random Firefighters...
