Hi,

As the subject line says, i am looking for a good worker placement game that works well with two players, as opposed to a 5 player game with a crappy 2 player variant.

I do not currently own any worker placement games and i am prepared to play anything regardless of theme, depth etc.

C'mon people, give me recommendations before i drop £40.00 on a game that i will play once and then keep it on a shelf gathering dust!

Thanks in advance

Keyflower

I've been very impressed with this one. You can read my comments under my profile for a more detailed explanation as to why. Works very well with 2-5. Haven't tried with six players though.

I'll second Agricola. I'd also check out Targi which is coming out this year. It's a worker placement game that was specifically designed for two player.

Agricola is great with two, as has been mentioned.
Caylus is considered by many to be best with two.
These are the cream of the crop in terms of heavier worker placement (in my opinion and in the opinion of many others, based upon the rankings).

Some games I usually see called "worker placement" which I've enjoyed 2-player:
Stone Age
Prêt-à-Porter
Caylus

Fjords? I like Fjords a lot, but I've never heard anyone call it a "worker placement" game before and if I were in the mood for worker placement, it would not scratch that itch...

I am a big fan of Agricola's little 2p-only sibling, Agricola: All Creatures Big and Small

We like Notre Dame with two, and you can pick it up cheap on here or ebay. Borderline whether worker placement or not, but enjoyable regardless.

Dungeon Lords. Although you're working with dummy players in a two player game, which is mostly a sign the game wasn't designed for two, it works really well and it gives you much more control than with four players. I actually like it better with two than with four

Some of the ones listed above are good choices. However If your just looking for a two player game Agricola: All Creatures Big and Small is really good, and I have heard good things about the 2 player Le Havre as well. The advantages over these two over there big brothers, Agricola, and Le Havre, is thay are almost as good as the larger games; You can pick up both these games and still have money left over as compared to one of the larger games, the games take less time to play and set up than the larger versions. For Agricola: All creaturs big and small I highly recommend the buildings expansion as well. The expansion means you can try more strategies and the play never gets old.

Your not-just-a-worker-placement game may be Discworld:Ankh-Morpork. The times we have played it with 2 have been (almost) as fun, surprising and varied as with 3 or 4.

I've had success playing Last Will with 2. I'm still not really sure I would call it a worker placement game though, but it does use that mechanic.

I love the game but it really, really isn't worker placement. At all.

Wow! Thanks for all the replies, didn't expect so many so quickly!

After speaking to "she who must be obeyed angry" it looks like either Stone Age or Keyflower are the way forward.

I have a feeling i am going to end up buying both of them, i may have ended up spending a bit more than i originally intended but should have two decent games!

Once again, many thanks to all who posted, it is muchos appreciated.

Pete

I will be keeping an eye on this game. I was a huge Pratchett fan when i was in my teens (Nobby Nobbs is pure quality!).
