We are pleased to release the 1978-79 NBA season. 22 teams. 313 players.
This is the last year of the NBA before the three-point shot kicked in, and features the only season in which the Seattle SuperSonics won the league championship.
Seattle beat Washington in the Finals, returning the favor from the year before.
The ’78-79 season features the brief downfall of vaunted teams like the Boston Celtics and New York Knicks, while surprise teams like the Kansas City Kings and San Diego Clippers (nee Buffalo Braves) won more games than predicted; in fact, the Kings won their division!
There are also some great footnotes in NBA history in this card set, such as the Detroit Pistons playing their first season in the Pontiac Silverdome under the guidance of an excitable coach named Dick Vitale; and the Celtics using the last player-coach in NBA history in Dave Cowens.
So dust off the disco albums, pull out that leisure suit and get ready for some classic, late-1970s roundball! Start rolling those bones!
