Okay, I have a vague recollection of a book I read in the mid-late 80s.

It was a children's book, and was, as I recall now, an attempt to cash in on Battlestar Galactica and Star Wars (it seemed more similar to BSG than SW). Had illustrations that I recall as being painted (and were roughly immitative of Christopher Foss' work). Focused on two heroes and an evil galactic overlord (of course).

Any ideas?

Thanks.

You may also search for Peter Elson, another illustrator from the 70's that was just like Foss.

I don't know why the others seem to think this is a joke. Presumably I haven't been on Chit Chat enough lately.

surprise

But assuming it's serious:

I'm guessing it's the Last Legionary series by Douglas Hill? I read and loved those books as a kid. Reread them a few years back and they still stood up pretty well.

The covers shown in that article aren't like the ones on my editions, though. Mine were like this:

There were four in the main series, which formed a quest narrative, with the hero searching for the unknown enemy who destroyed his planet; plus a (less interesting) prequel.

Thanks Chapel - couldn't spot anything from that book, but that was a very nice image search nevertheless (and now I know who did the covers for Harrison's Stainless Steel Rat books).

Evidently I haven't either. shrug.

Thanks for the suggestion, but no - it was a one-off thing.

I think I should emphasise the illustrated part - it wasn't a mass-market paper-back, it was more picture-book size (but still mostly text).

And I have a lot of memories of red in those pictures

to be perfectly honest there was a part of the book that dealt with a sort of a best friend relationship between robot and human....and i thought it was handled rather well

other that that it was total bullshit and i enjoyed every page

Yeah, I know, but you would be surprised how often asking in a place like this strikes gold. And even if not, its better to ask than not.

Besides, for it to have turned up in a school library means it must have been reasonably common.
