On page 4 of the rules... "Setting Up The Game" ...on the left hand side is a paragraph titled: "Jungle". Reading it makes absolutely no sense whatsoever and it certainly doesn't jive with the picture outside the "9 to 12 o'clock" position of the Palenque gear as shown on that page. There are 4 boxes with 4 tiles each. The "9 o'clock" boxes show 4 corn. The other three boxes show 4 wood tiles each. What does this have to do with what is described in the "Jungle" paragraph written here. Will someone who knows what's going on please clearly re-write this paragraph for the rest of us who have no idea what it's talking about??

Each action on the Palenque gear corresponds to a number of 'jungle' and 'field' spaces, where your workers collect either wood or food. Notice in the picture how the green tokens with wood on are directly besides the 5 (corn) / 2 (wood), 7 (corn) / 3 (wood) and 9 (corn) / 4 (wood) icons? Those four tokens show the jungle.

By the 2nd Palenque action (looking closely you can see the numbers on a corn icon), there are a number of field tokens, with the corn symbol on them. You place four corn tokens here. Those corn tokens are picked up when you collect four corn using the space, and if there aren't any, you (usually) can't collect corn there. Going clockwise from there, the 3rd, 4th and 5th spaces also get four corn tokens, but you put a wood tile on top of them. On those spaces, you'll be able to pick up an exposed wood tile to collect the specified amount of wood, or pick up an exposed corn tile for the food.

Note that the setup is slightly different for 2 or 3 players (you only place 2 or 3 tokens of each type in each space respectively).

Hope that clears it up, if you still have questions, ask away.

Place a corn tile in all 16 squares. Then place a wood tile on top of all the corn tiles in the squares that corespond to gear positions 3, 4, and 5. In the picture, there is a corn tile under each of the wood tiles.

There are 4 groups of 4 "fields" there corresponding to Palenque spaces 2, 3, 4 and 5. Place 4 corn tiles on each (all 16) of those fields. Then place 12 wood tiles on top of the corn tiles in spaces 3, 4 and 5.

(This is the 4 player set up - it's different for 2 and 3 player - as described in the rules.)

Enjoy the game.
