Soldier for Up Front, but is my back to the Volga or the Spree river?

Hello,

I have hit a wall with Poland. For 1939I have the rank tables, but can not find a table of organization and equipment for an infantry squad (section). For the Polish paras I can not confirm the rank insignia, beret colour, or table of organization and equipment for Polish Airborne Squad (section).

The design team wants to have most historically accurate rank titles, abbreviations and insignia for a infantry squad (section). The intent is to add historically accurate flavour and not just apply the United States rank structure, titles and insignia to all nationalities like the original edition.

The intent is to achieve the best historical accuracy with flex towards game play. Please do not go to wiki and quote me a Polish squad leader in NATO code OR-3... This has to be World War 2.

Below are the examples for the US and Germany

Polish Army, 1939
Position.......................Rank.............Abbr..........Weapon
Platoon NCO
Squad Leader
Assistant Squad Ldr
Senior Soldier..........?starszy strzelec?.......st. strz.....KbK Wz.29 Rifle, BAR LMG
Junior Soldier.........strzelec...................strz.......KbK Wz.29 Rifle

Polish 1st Independent Airborne Bde
Position...............Rank..........Abbr..........Weapon
Platoon NCO
Squad Leader
Assistant Squad Ldr
Senior Soldier
Junior Soldier

Any references to uniforms, equipment and insignia would be appreciated would be appreciated also.

What colour was the beret of the 1st Independent Airborne Bde? grey or Maroon?

Please PM me.

Thanks

Brad Knoll

These are for the armed forces after the fall of Poland, for 1939 these should be used: http://www.uniforminsignia.org/?option=com_insigniasearch&It...

Dear Bradley,

Please check these links:

http://niehorster.orbat.com/029_poland/__poland.htm

http://wp39.struktury.net/ - this one is great, as it goes down til the single soldier, example: http://wp39.struktury.net/pulk-piechoty-pluton-strzelecki-19...

Hope that helps. If it is not enough, please let me know.

Knowing the reenactors fervor(used to be one), this reenactment site says the Polish Airborne wore Grey berets.

I have not found a specific reference to the squad organization for the Polish Ind Airborne Bde, but after looking through the book "Poles Apart" it appears with the exception of making all combat support and transportation organic to the Bde that is normally not in a British Bde, that all the equipment and organization is the same. Even the rank structure was taken from the British, with the exception that according to the book, officer candidates were given NCO ranks with 'Cadet' as a prefix, thus Cadet Sergeant was a officer cadet that was given the rank of Sergeant.

From this I would propose that the structure, equipment and rank distribution is the same as a British infantry section. The only exceptions being the rank of Cadet Sgt, and possibly the smaller section size, if you wanted more historically accurate OB's, simply from the fact that the Poles had a hell of a time recruiting and qualifying paratroops. (Again from 'Poles Apart' and other internet references to the size of the battalions parachuted into the southern bank of the Rhine being just over 300 soldiers.)

The actual polish spelling will appear on the cards. So I want the actual polish ranks for each position. The problem with translators is that it will translate into the context of you ever translates it.

Example.

WW2 Squad Leader. A British Commonwealth person translating this would say that is equal to Corporal, while an American person translating it will say Sergeant.

So I need the actual polish ranks for each position. I have the ranks and corresponding insignia, but don't want to make the mistake of putting a Platoon NCO as a Squad Leader because the translator is American based and splits out Sergeant
