Can someone clue me in as to the difference between Recenet, Active, and Hot?

For a review, for example, is the most "Recent" review the one that was posted most recently, or the one that had comments posted to it most recently? Is an "Active" thread/review, one with the most posts in it over a certain time period? Is a "Hot" item one that was viewed most frequently over some time period (independent of whether anything was posted to it or not)? Am I close? Am I way off?

Thanks.

I'm pretty sure that..

Hot - Has had many people give it a thumbs up recently. I don't know what time span is considered recently. Items with the highest number of recent thumbs up is at the top.

Active - Has had a comment recently. The item with the most recient comment is at the top.

Recent - The newest initial post is at the top.

I believe "Hot" orders items based on number of thumbs-up recommendations;
"Active" lists items according to which was added to most recently; and
"Recent" refers to when the original item was created
