Yes, it can happen that an agent dies during a mission...

If an agent suffers an attack that brings his total LIFE POINTS to 0 or below, his condition changes from HEALTHY to BLEEDING STATE.
From this moment he must follow the bleeding state rules until:
• His WOUNDS are healed [starting healing from 0 LIFE POINTS]
• An additional wound is inflicted, causing DEATH!

If an agent suffers a number of wounds greater of his life points he goes in BLEEDING,

An agent in BLEEDING STATUS has a limited operational capability. While remaining in this state he must follow these rules:
• He must skip the COMBAT phase
• His movement is reduced to only one HEX [if not ENGAGED IN COMBAT]
• He can use his ACTION phase as normal.

A bleeding agent can be represented on the battlefield by placing the relevant miniature laying on its side.

The agent in BLEEDING STATUS is still considered a menace by the aliens, can still be attacked [defending normally], and he will die if he suffers an additional wound.

When the agent dies his player become INOPERATIVE and no longer interact with other agents or aliens. He must skip entirely his agent and aliens turns until the end of the mission; His figure is removed from the map and all his powers, weapons and items are discarded.
Any assigned alien cards must be passed to others players following the standard alien assignment rules.

BUT if we reach the FACEBOOK STRETCH GOAL that player can play as the "ALIEN MIND" the FREE Downloadable expansion

Hope it can help! cool
