This game is definately better than the original version. The rules that were added and changed were to keep game balance. It also makes the game more fun to play.

You can play for victory cities, which shortens the length of the game, or you can play like in the original game for the capitals.

The map is more appealing than the old one, and displays the neutral countries that units may not pass through.

One thing that is really annoying with the old version was that tanks only defended at a two. In the revised version they defend at a three. Also for every artillery present it upgrades the infantry's attack to two. This also makes it more convenient for attacking.

Also you are able to buy dice to roll for weapons development. For instance you can roll for super bombers. If you roll the specified roll then your bombers get to attack with two dice. Also if you roll the specified roll for super submarines, this means that they now attack and defend at a three. Any weapons development earned is the advantage for the remainder of the game.

Overall this game I think is better than the original version. The pieces are more realistic and are more accurate to historical detail.

You could research technology in the old version too, but it was more random. Altough I agree with you that the revised edition is better!
