PBF#18 - Choose Your Own Boom
This game will start on April 28th and likely run to May 3.

You find yourself alone in a dark void. However, you are not afraid because fear requires knowledge, and strangely you find yourself lacking any notions of knowledge. Thus, aside from a mild anxiety, you are not disturbed by your inability to recall your own existence and purpose or what the world should resemble. Before you a path slowly begins to fade into your view. Should you follow it?
A) To follow this path, post below that you'd like to join this game.
B) To stay in the void, don't join the game and instead disappoint everyone.

Sign-Ups/Player List:
1. BlueTorch
2. Emme
3. Caitlin
4. Mike
5. longlivesquare
6. slinkydink
7. Clyde
8. Jarek
9. BRickAstley
10. Vanderscamp
11. Slathe
12. schwarzott
13. Mowglee
14. ErintheRed
15. CityWithoutMen
16. Seen
17. Jack Elfrink

Note/Disclaimer: This game will feature some advanced roles -- it is not a basic game. This game will also potentially feature some non-traditional mechanics that may or may not affect the game in ways that will intentionally surprise the players by changing things. (Spoilers prevents me from describing it more explicitly, but rest assured it will be fun and flavorful.) Hint: the game is titled "Choose your Own Boom", so think what "Choose your own adventures" are like and you might have some idea... The game and role-set will not be as complex as this warning makes it sound.

Re: 2R1B PBF#18 - Choose Your Own Boom - (Starts April 28th)
Introduction

Two Rooms and a Boom is a social deduction, hidden role game. There are two teams, the Red Team and the Blue Team. The Blue Team has a President. The Red Team has a Bomber. Players are equally distributed between two rooms (separate playing areas). The game consists of 5 timed rounds. At the end of each round, some players will be traded into opposing rooms. If the Red Team’s Bomber is in the same room as the Blue Team's President at the end of the game, then the Red Team wins. Otherwise the Blue Team wins.

PBF Rules

At the start of the game, the moderator will create two different "room" threads (labeled something like "PBF#1 - The Bunker - Round 1" and "PBF#1 - The Command Post - Round") and a "main" thread (this one) in which the mod posts all of the "commands" during the game (like, "Jimmy Dean moves from The Bunker to the Command Post"). The mod then randomly assigns all players to the two rooms and deals out randomly their roles via private message. The mod then begins the first round by posting something like: ROUND 1 WILL END 24 HOURS FROM NOW

Each round is a day. All players assigned into a room MUST NOT look at the other room's thread as that is CHEATING. They may only read and post in their assigned room. Over the course of the round, each room's leader will select a number of hostages (round and player count dependent) to transfer to the other room. If a leader does not submit a person to switch within the time limit, the mod will select hostages randomly from that room and move them.

After the mod has moved the players, two new threads for the next round will be created. Players may look back at the "old" rooms until the game is finished.

Electing a Leader

To elect a Leader for a room, players vote for any player in their room. They do this by bolding "Vote for Alex". Once a player has enough votes equal to more than half the number of players in the room (a majority), that player is the Leader.

A Leader remains the leader of a room until:
• The Leader leaves the room. If the Leader chooses to leave the room, then they must choose someone else to be the new Leader for that room.
• A re-vote occurs and a new player receives the majority of the votes.

Revealing

During the course of the game, players can do what is called a "co-reveal" or a "color-reveal". If you co-reveal with a player, you reveal to them your role and they reveal to you their role. If players wish to do a co-reveal, they must publicly state in their room's thread, "I wish to do a co-reveal with Jesse." "Jesse" must then also say, "I wish to do a co-reveal with Alex." After both players have "locked in" their wish to co-reveal via bolding, they are FORCED to divulge their role card with the other player (ie, you can't back out if you realize you're about to reveal to a player on the other team). If they wish to do a color-reveal, it is the same type of situation, except that you only share the color of your card (red, blue, or gray). There must be 10 players playing before color-reveals are allowed.

What if a player wishes to back out of a reveal prior to the actual reveal? Let's say A puts in bold that they wish to reveal with B. Prior to B putting in bold that they will reveal with A, A can back out of the reveal by putting in another message, in bold, saying they no longer wish to reveal. Once B puts in their reveal orders, however, the reveal is required by both parties, regardless of whether they wanted to reveal or not. No cheating! The mod WILL intervene if required (but would rather you sort it out yourself).

Players are also allowed to simply show another player their color or role if they'd like. To do this, a player would publicly state and bold in his room's thread, "I show Jesse my color" or "Private Reveal Jesse."

Likewise, you can publicly reveal your role to the room, by bolding your color or role and announcing it in the room's thread (i.e., "I am red."). If it's bold, you cannot lie.

To summarize, we have:

• Offer [color/co-reveal] to Jesse - to propose a color or co-reveal to player
• Accept [color/co-reveal] from Jesse - to accept a color or co-reveal from player
• Revoke [color/co-reveal] offer to Jesse - to cancel a previous color or co-reveal offer to player
• Private reveal [color/role] to Jesse - share role/color with player
• I am [color/role] - share color/role with room

Private Messaging

Private messaging will be allowed this game. Private messages must be:

• Announced in the public thread who you whispered to, via a bolded action, "Whisper to Jesse"
• You are allowed to whisper to multiple people at once for one action. "Whisper to Jesse, Alex, Teresa."
• There's still no limit on private messages (whispers) you can send, but try to keep whispers close to five per round or 25/game (it's not a hard limit, but it makes the game a little more challenging and mimics the time limit you might otherwise feel in a real-life game).

SPECIAL NOTE ON ENCODING WHISPERS:

Because spectators and future geeks browsing the forums may want to see what was said during those whisper exchanges (it makes the game more interesting), you may consider posting your messages in a
Spoiler (click to reveal)
SPOILER
and use a cypher like that found on the rot13 website (http://www.rot13.com/) to keep people from accidentally reading the message. To use the encoder, just type in whatever message you would like to whisper, hit CYPHER, and post the encoded text in your spoiler. Whoever receives the whisper should then copy the encoded text, paste it back into the rot13 encoder/decoder, and hit CYPHER.

NOTE: DO NOT READ MESSAGES MEANT FOR OTHER PEOPLE, especially those from opposing team members. THIS IS CHEATING. You are welcome to go back after the game is over and read what people posted.

SECOND-In-COMMAND: To prevent random transfers from occurring during the game (because of the flavor of this game, decisions CANNOT be made after the deadline), room leaders are HIGHLY encouraged to appoint a 2nd-in-command and inform both that player and the moderator, so that said player may also submit hostage transfer orders and next round leader appointment to the moderator.

Re: 2R1B PBF#18 - Choose Your Own Boom - (Starts April 28th)
Guaranteed Roles:

Loyal Servants of Her Majesty’s Galactic Empire, aka BLUE TEAM

Admiral Captain First-Class, aka President - The Blue Team wins if you do not gain the "dead" condition.
Every warship in Her Majesty’s Navy has an Admiral Captain First-Class, who hold the complete knowledge of the warship’s mission and destination as well as the launch codes for it’s nuclear and anti-matter arsenal.

Her Majesty’s Physician, aka Doctor - When playing with The Doctor, The Captain/President begins with the “Blue Team loses” condition. The “Blue Team loses” condition can only be removed from the President by co-revealing with the Doctor.
For security purposes, Admiral Captains have their brains medically altered to prevent them from remembering launch codes and mission details until Her Majesty’s Physicians on their ship re-complete their neural pathways. Physicians are ordered to perform this procedure at a specific time unless an emergency occurs. Physicians can only identify the Admiral Captains by closely examining their heads with a portable hand-held device that identifies the damage in a Captain’s brain.

Rendroid Liberation Forces, aka RED TEAM

Rendroid Suicide-Bomber - Everyone in the same room as you at the end of the game gains the "Dead" condition. The Rendroid/Red Team wins if the Captain/President gains the "Dead" condition.
For your dedication to the cause, you have been trained and armed with the materials to not only destroy a warship, but turn it’s own arsenal against the Empire.

Rendroid Technician, aka Engineer - When playing with The Engineer, The Bomber begins with the “Read Team loses” condition. The “Red Team loses” condition can only be removed from the Bomber by co-revealing with the Engineer.
The Rendroid Resistance fighters to maintain cover smuggle their weapons and devices in pieces on multiple agents. Your job is to combine your mechanical parts with the device carried by the Bomber to finish arming his weapons. First, you need to figure out who the Bomber is...

Potential Roles: All roles listed below may or may not appear in the game whether assigned at the set-up or appearing later due to choices.

r / b V1.1 Assistance Droids, aka Angel - you must always tell the truth (unless you’re “seduced”, “hypnotized”, or any other condition that may influence you ability to tell the truth).
Assistance Droids are used throughout the galaxy for various uses. Their AI is fairly under-developed however. As a result, early models lack the ability to discern contextual situations or feel emotions. The early V1.1 bots on the ships of this mission were notorious for causing a wave of destruction when they gave out classified security data learned inside government departments because they lacked the understanding of security protocols. The Chief Droid Engineer and Minister of Galactic Security were executed 4 months after the public release of V1.1.

r / b V1.12 Assistance Droids, aka Devil - you must always tell lie (unless you’re “seduced”, “hypnotized”, or any other condition that may influence you ability to lie).
In an attempt to correct the poor AI of V1.1 Assistance Droids that prevented them from withholding key classified data, Her Majesty’s Droid Engineers accidentally made V1.12 which never gave correct data. Oops. The Chief Droid Engineer was executed the following week.

r / b Conspirator - any player that co-reveals with you that is on the opposite team (blue revealing to red) gains the “traitor” condition. A player with the “traitor” condition has their win objective changed to that of the opposing team. For example, a Blue Team player with the “traitor” condition wins if the President gains the “dead” condition (which is the win objective of the Red Team). Note: If a player with the “traitor” condition were to acquire the “loyal” condition, the two conditions would cancel one another, leaving the player with neither condition.
Whether it is by means of bribery, vice, reprogramming, or surgical brain alterations, there are Conspirator Agents on both sides of this war capable of convincing or forcing others to join their cause.

r Proximity-Mine Agent, aka Cupid - once per game, you may privately reveal your card to two players. You must say to your target players, “You are in love with each other.” Those two players gain the “in love” condition. Players “in love” have an additional win objective. They must be in the same room at the end of the game or lose. You can NOT use this love power on yourself. Note: If a player with the “in love” condition were to acquire the “in hate” condition, the two conditions would cancel one another, leaving the player with neither condition.
Using illegal and untested technology, the Proximity-Mime agent has been armed by the Rendroid Army with two nanochip devices that can be secretly implanted into the brain of a person. This nanochip devices are set to explode if the 2 chips are not within 50 meters of each other at the scheduled time of the Rendroid major assault. This explosion will blow up the targets’ brains and kill them, so they will need to be on the same ship.

b Electromagnetic-Mine Agent, aka Eris - once per game, you may privately reveal your card to two players. You must say to your target players, “You hate each other.” Those two players gain the “in hate” condition. Players “in hate” have an additional win objective. They must NOT be in the same room at the end of the game or lose. You can NOT use this hate power on yourself. Note: If a player with the “in hate” condition were to acquire the “in love” condition, the two conditions would cancel one another, leaving the player with neither condition.
Also using illegal and untested tech, the EM-Mine Agent has been sent by the Empire’s MI6 with two nanochip devices that can be implanted into the brains of two targets. If a major explosion occurs within 5000 meters of either device and it detects the paired chip within 50 meters, then it will explode. When the Rendroid Bomber explodes, the chips will destroy the brains of their targets if they are on the same ship.

r / b Enforcer - once per round, you may privately reveal your card to two players. You must say to your target players, “You MUST reveal your card to one another.” Those two players must co-reveal to one another (not you). You can NOT use this power on yourself, but another Enforcer can use their power on you. Note: If used on a shy character, the ability is wasted (but at least you now know for sure that character is shy).
Armed with electric stun weaponry, a warship Enforcer can disable two targets once the gun is fully charged and then force them to perform a complete Bernelli-Meind Test with each other.

r / b Fugitive - you are only permitted to color reveal, even when a character’s power might force a co-reveal.
Every ship in this galaxy is a target for rogues and criminals, stowaways and fugitives are as old as shipping. Of course, that doesn’t mean fugitive androids and humans don’t pick sides in war.

r / b Golden Golem Droids, aka Immunologist - is immune to all powers and conditions without exception.
Golem Droids were designed to be immune to all tampering both mechanical and biological, nor can they be bribed or threatened. Such agents have proved invaluable to both sides.

r / b Medic - you cleanse any player that co-reveals with you. This means that any player that co-reveals with the you has all of their acquired conditions removed from them. For example, a player who has been “bitten” by a Werewolf would no longer have the “bitten” condition after co-revealing with you. This does not make yourself immune to acquiring conditions, as you might need to find the opposing Medic. (Note: Zombie Medics remove conditions and then provide the Zombie condition.)
Like it sounds... a medic is a soldier who “heals”. In reality, you might ask what’s the difference between a Medic and a Doctor? Well, a Doctor actually heals you; a Medic just makes you feel better while you die. Both Loyalist and Rendroid Medics have been trained to detect surgical and mechanical tampering and restore humans and androids alike to their original state.

r / b Observer Hackers, aka Paparazzi - do your best to make sure there are no private conversations. You must try to be as intrusive as possible, including looking over players’ shoulders at their cards, and even getting on the ground to look up at the bottoms of cards being passed between players. If playing with the Privacy Promise rule variant, ignore the rule.
Observer Hackers have been armed with the best in surveillance technology as well as trained in advanced security network hacking. This means that they see what any and all security cameras see, and they can hear and see anything picked up by their secret cameras hidden on their person. (...Careful, the walls of eyes and ears.)

r / b Spy - this is a special character card that is the color of the opposite team. This means, for example, that the Red Spy has an allegiance to the Red Team, but their card is blue. Spy character cards are distinguishable from regular team cards by the flavor text and team icon.
Espionage is as old as the first empires in human history. Her Majesty’s MI6 has developed agents capable of infiltrating and deceiving Rendroid cells and forces appearing to have android-level empathy; however, these modified humans still have true human bone marrow. And by the same token, the Rendroids of their own androids who are nearly perfectly human in likeness and able to cheat empathy tests, but unable to fake a bone marrow test.

Zealot / Loyalist Soldier , aka Team - You are on Red Team, if the President gains the "dead" condition, you win. / You are on Blue Team, if the President does not gain the "dead" condition, you win.
Loyalist soldiers form the core of Her Majesty’s forces. While Rendroid Zealots form the core of the rebel forces.

OTHER

purple Amnesiac - this character card is only used with a buried card. At the end of the last round, before all players reveal their character cards, you must declare which team you are on by saying, “I remember which team I am on. I am on the _________ .” You must choose the Red Team, the Blue Team, or nobody’s team. If you don’t choose the team that has a minority of players, you lose. If you choose the correct team, but your team loses, you lose too. If you say, “I am on nobody’s team,” and there are an equal number of players on the Red Team and Blue Team, you win.
Look no one said that cyro-sleep or bio-engineering or frequent brain surgery and bio-mechanical manipulation wouldn’t affect long-term memory.

grey Gambler - sometime BEFORE the last round, you must publicly declare which team (Red, Blue, or neither) you think will win the game. If correct, you win. If incorrect, you lose.
Some people aren’t too concerned with who wins or the structure of the government. Androids probably deserve freedom, but some people are too apathetic to get involved. These people are hedging their bets, when it looks advantageous for them or like one side will win, then they will follow.

green Locust, aka Zombie - you begin with the “zombie” condition. The “zombie” condition changes a players allegiance to Team Zombie. Team Zombie wins if all players that aren’t “dead” at the end of the game are on Team Zombie. Any player that co-reveals or color reveals with a member of Team Zombie gains the “zombie” condition. New members of Team Zombie maintain their powers, but their allegiance changes to Team Zombie. Note: newly transformed Zombie players do not exchange their current character cards for Zombie cards. Therefore, it is important for players to indicate that they are on Team Zombie when co-revealing or color revealing with another player. This is usually done by whispering something along the lines of, “I’m a Zombie, and now so are you. Play it cool, man. Let’s win this biznitch.”

Re: 2R1B PBF#18 - Choose Your Own Boom - (Starts April 28th)
FLAVORING
Acceptable flavor terms for reveals:
"Perform a Bernelli-Meind Test" = co-reveal
"Perform a Freudian Slip Test" = color reveal
"Give Bone Marrow" = full private reveal
"Show Freudian Analytics" = private color reveal
"Loyal Servant" = public "I am Blue"
"Rendroid Rebel" = public "I am Red"

SETTING:
In the distant future of an alternate timeline...
It is the year 2989 and the great Queen Victoria IX reigns supreme over Earth and the Galactic Empire of Britannia. A war rages on between humanity and androids. Using superior technological advancements and exploiting the resources of their empire, the British Empire gradually took dominion over the world. Uniting under their Queen. After conquering Earth under a single banner, humanity took to space.

To aid them in colonizing the harsh and unattractive new worlds, humanity developed mechanical droids to perform labor for them -- most notably piloting the first deep-space ships carrying humans frozen in cryo-sleep and in the construction of initial colony buildings.
Over time, droid technology became one of the most powerful industries. Big business powered innovation -- the push for better and more expensive droids. People believed that Androids were the way of the future. And so, the rush to create the perfect Android servants began.
As androids became widely used for labor in Her Majesty's Galactic Empire, it became evident that many saw uses beyond piloting ships and building colony structures. People wanted android house servants, android companions, android lovers, android chefs, android athletes... And while androids spread throughout daily life and were innovated to become closer and closer to human analogues, it remained clear that androids were property -- a commodity to be owned, sold, traded, and decommissioned -- slaves.

Of course, what made a better android -- a more human android? Once the biology was mastered to make their bodies essentially the same as a human clone, it was the mind that people sought to imitate. Her Majesty's East Android Company was the first to give androids the functions to comprehend their own identity and mortality -- giving them a "soul". This was the beginning of the major shift in android usage.
Androids began thinking for themselves, acting independently, and resenting their status as "slaves". They rose up occasionally, resisting human dominion, and fighting requiring human security forces and militias to "decommission" them all by force. Another publicly ignored problem was in identifying androids. Androids biologically appeared human -- they bled as humans did. The most certain test was testing the bone marrow to see if they were natural-born human or a manufactured android. More simple tests involved testing the emotional capabilities and empathy: the quick street test known as the "Freudian-Slip Test" was developed but found to be generally unreliable leading to the more trusted "Bernelli-Meind Test" created by a leading psychologist Dr. Marco Bernelli and android bio-engineer Dr. Adolf Meind.
By the time the public at large realized the mistake and dangers of giving androids human cognitive abilities, it was too late. Androids were flying off the factory lines from Day 1 and had spread throughout the entire Galactic Empire and beyond into frontiers. There was no way to effectively police such an expanse. Like all great empires, it was collapsing from within due to its own weight.

In a frontier colony called Ekhlas-II, an android now known as Rend rose up as a fanatical leader of the androids. People spoke of him as if, he were a religious prophet for androids. The androids who followed him became referred to by human public as Rendroids. Rend advocated the unification of androids under the call for freedom and liberty to be treated not just as equal to natural-born humans but to be treated as humans.
Her Majesty's MI6, knowing full-well that the empire was too large to police and that androids were too difficult to identify quickly, decided that key assassinations of any vocal androids was necessary. The bloody assassination of Rend led to martyr status among androids. His name spread across the galaxy like a plague. Soon his followers were motivated to retaliate in organized violence. Forming terror cells and networks, they sabotaged and destroyed key military, political, and social targets all over the empire.
Her Majesty's security forces began launching large warships on secret assault missions to destroy scouted and potential Rendroid outposts, training grounds, and refuges. These warships were armed with the most powerful in nuclear and anti-matter weaponry. Her Majesty's Defense and Security Ministries have been overwhelming by the difficulties of keeping androids from infiltrating their ranks and joining warship crews. Extreme and absurd security protocols were taken after several disastrous expeditionary trips ended in the complete destruction of warships.

The question remains, how much longer will the fighting rage on and who will win?
....to be continued...

SCI-FI FLAVORING WINS defeating drama flavor options and fantasy flavor options. But it's not really going to be very Bladerunner, because that doesn't excite me and it's been so long since I saw it or read Do Androids Dream...
It'll be an original sci-fi mash-up world, hopefully it satisfies your taste-buds...

Re: 2R1B PBF#18 - Choose Your Own Boom - (Starts April 28th)
The final flavor choice will have the largest influence on the role-set for the game, but I am interested in knowing what roles you love and what roles you hate, as well as how powerful or weak you feel they are:

(Again, bonus points to anyone other than BT who guesses the true theme of the game.)

Okay, you got me; I really like polls and data.

EDIT: Polls removed.

Reserved for Special Rules and Notes

Special Rules:
If the Moderator tells you something via PM or post in a game thread, it takes precedent over any past notices and should be followed even if it bends or seemingly breaks other rules.

PAPARAZZI: Paparazzi players in the game may attempt to peek at any reveals by other players as well as try to eavesdrop on their whispers.
To do so, they just need to quote the target and post "Tries to Peek at NAME" or "Tries to Eavesdrop".
The Mod will then use a die roll to determine if the Paparazzi sees something and how much they see.
It is important for Paparazzi to state which player in a co-color or co-reveal they are peeking at specifically because their chances will be higher for that player than the other.
As a result of this role: please forward copies of all whispers to the Mod.
Paparazzi has a 50% chance of seeing the color of their peek target in a reveal and 25% of role if they see color, and a 20% chance of seeing the color of the other person in the reveal and 5% of seeing role if see color.
As for whispers, a paparazzi has a 10% chance of hearing a whole whisper, and a 25% chance of hearing player names and colors and roles in the order they are mentioned.
In other words:
Attempt to Peek at Target:
See color of target?: Roll die, 50% chance see color.
If yes saw color and it was role reveal: Roll die, 25% chance see role.
If 2nd person involved in reveal: Roll die, 20% chance see color.
If yes saw color and it was role reveal: roll die, 5% chance see role.
Attempt to Eavesdrop:
Roll 100-sided die, (1-10) 10% chance sees whole whisper and (1-25) 25% chance of hearing all player names, colors, and roles in order mentioned (i.e.; "...Koniu... blue?... IEatTables... Red... Spy... liljohnny... President...")

Whispers need to be accessible for the Mod, either by forwarding the Mod or CC the Mod or encoding them with rot13 and spoilering them in the thread.

Non-paparazzi cannot fake using the paparazzi action.

Paparazzi do not have a time limit to attempt to peek or eavesdrop because they can check their video recordings and data tapes -- they are limited to only checking current round exchanges though.
Going to allow for a revealed Paparazzi (one who has already taken the Paparazzi "Peek/Eavesdrop Attempt action") in a round to publicly post "Conditional Orders with the Mod to Attempt to Peek/Eavesdrop on all Reveals and Whispers for the remainder of this Round", because mechanically all the players will be aware of the Paparazzi presence and activity for that round and it will not require constant quote/posting for every attempt.

The Conspirator role cannot affect President nor Bomber and only Red/Blue roles.

Remember that things can change as a result of your choices.

So making polls is ... addictive. (If you have strong opinions, you should answer them.)

I've begun the process of sending out Private GeekMail Messages to those who have signed-up already so that they may continue/begin their adventures after choosing "A) To follow this path, post below that you'd like to join this game."
BlueTorch has dubbed this portion of the adventure "pre-game" and because of its existence and mysterious purpose, I may have to close sign-ups a little bit earlier than PBF sign-ups usually close -- at the very least, the earlier people sign-up the better.
If someone signs-up on April 28 rather than before, they will need to do so early in the day (before 12:00 CST) and PM me so I know and can message them back and forth the "pre-game" portion of their adventure.
Hopefully, that works for people.

Edit -- Just to be clear: you should not share your "adventure" and "choices" with other players at the moment -- THPOILERTH!

Holy crap that role preference poll.

Wait until I get in front of my rule manual and can make sure I remember all the functions.

Of course! --You need as many chances to be Blue as possible, right?
The game doesn't start for almost a week, and it certainly benefits from as many players as we can get.
