When you're holding a number whose value - due to its position - will be clear to everyone, you can keep guessing till your luck runs out (no penalty in giving away a number they'd deduce anyway, right?)

You have, however, another option entirely.

Against experienced players it pays off to point at someone's (anyone's) stone and guess a number (and colour) from your own code (e.g. a white 5).

This will always result in a wrong guess (since your guess is part of your own code). However experienced players (who not only keep track of their own code and the knocked-over stones but also the guesses people made) will assume that since you asked for a white 5 this stone isn't part of your code.

By sacrificing a number they'd deduce anyway, you'll throw them off.

Even when surrounded by a 4 and a 6 their first guess will be the "-".
