Hi folks
[14.12] revealing of units: I guess that is mandatory and not optional? In case of a re-attack or wolfpack do I need to reveal further units or can I just shoot on the known-ones?

Wolfpacks, revealed escort level [24.24]: is this an additive effect to [14.16] B2 (ASW of all revealed) or an alternative (only escort ASW)?

Thanks

Hello,

You are never forced to reveal units. Your tactical level represents the maximum units you can reveal. You can still attack unrevealed units, sometimes it´s a good idea, sometimes a bad one...

When attacking loners your must reveal units you want to attack...

Concerning your second question, my answer is it´s an addictive effect... But wolfpacks revealed escort is not a good way to write... It´s always a sub that revealed a escort, then onces revealed, the escort is counted as ASW value for the sub and for the others. If the sub revealed a diligent escort, the event is resolved for this sub then the ASW is counted as a normal escort for the others... (That´s why it could be a good idea to unflip white flags and to be in the center of the convoy, where there is less escorts...)

I hope my answer is in a not so bad English....

Not correct. As long as there are unrevealed units that you can reveal, you MUST reveal as many as your tactical rating allows. You sub captains will push the attacks more aggressively in better boats, giving more opportunities, but also more risks even when you wouldn't prefer that.

Thus, sometimes it's better to hang around in the side of the convoy where you end up revealing less than the maximum number of units because there isn't any eligible units to reveal. And sometimes it's better to be in the center where the white-flagged units are more often heavy warships or merchants without ASW value.

Note that there is actually two possible ways to reveal the units. You may either reveal them before placing TDCs, so you see what you are shooting, or you may leave them unrevealed before TDC placement. Or reveal part and leave part unrevealed. However, the unrevealed units will be automatically revealed when you attack them (and you must attack every unit if the TDC makes hitting possible).

The reason why you might not want to reveal the units beforehand is that if one of them is a unit with an ASW value, it will not affect the attacks before revealed, so if you attack that unit last, you get an easier shot at the other units first. The downside is that you have less information to decide whether you want to use Surface Gunnery and if you reveal a Diligent Escort and are damaged by it's initial attack, you may withdraw without attacking (and thus without counterattack) if this happened before the TDC placement. If the Diligent Escort is revealed during the attack, then you must also suffer the counterattack, which has now a good chance of sinking the ship.

It's easiest to answer by describing wholly how it works. For single boat attack, revealed escort level is:
[ASW value for revealed escorts in same and adjacent rows] + [ASW value of aircrafts and aircraft-capable units in other rows]

The revealed escort level reduces the attack value of the subs. For counterattack the counterattack value is
[revealed escort level] + [number of red boxes in AAC] + [WP ASW value]

In Wolfpacks, every boat has its own revealed escort level, which is
[ASW value for revealed escorts in the same row] + [ASW value for revealed escorts in those adjacent rows that do not have a sub] + [ASW value of aircrafts and aircraft-capable units everywhere]

The revealed escort level works just like for single boats, it is just counted individually for all of the boats in Wolfpack.
