What happens when you reveal the Pretending to Sleep Treachery card, which places the 6th progress token on Smaug? Smaug's Forced effect dictates that you immediately advance to Stage 4, but do you play out the rest of the Quest Phase and compare your Will to the new Threat in the Staging Area? Or does the advancing effect end the Quest Phase and you proceed to the Travel Phase immediately?

(Don't have Doorstep cards on hand, so just generic answer given the facts you stated)
Completing a Quest card (assuming any special conditions are also fulfilled) interrupts game flow and immediately causes you to flip the next quest card. Then you continue where you left off, there's no skipping ahead or aborting phases involved or anything.
"Where you left off" in this case seems to be in the middle of staging, so you'd draw any remaining encounter cards (if any) and then compare will vs threat etc as nomral to place counters on the (new) quest card if questing was successful.

Here's my interpretation:

The Forced effect triggers immediately - sending you to Stage 4. Then you determine if you quested successfully or not. Then you add tokens/increase threat based on the results. Then the Quest Phase is over.
