Fellow Gamers,

What are your thoughts on leaving inserts in place vs sorting methods that remove them?

I recently acquired a copy of GT from a FLGS, and to my dismay the insert is far far lacking to keeping the pieces in its compartments. So I went to Walmart, picked up a small divided insert tray, and took the factory insert out.

Have I committed a cardinal sin? What are your thoughts on the matter?

I remove the inserts on nearly every game I own.

It's a hobbyist rite of passage.

I removed mine because I couldn't fit everything in otherwise.

The only games I've removed the insert so far are ones where it would be impossible to close the box otherwise. In general, I find ziploc bags and folding sandwich bags (for cards) more than sufficient to keep everything organized in most games. Then again, I don't like to throw out expansion boxes if I can help it, so some of my games with expansions are spread out across multiple containers.

I remove the inserts almost as soon as I buy the game. My hotel room in Essen is full of them each year!

Galaxy Trucker has one of the worst inserts out there. Get rid of it.

This also tends to let my games know that they will be with me for a while. If you still have your insert, you are likely going to find your way to the sale pile.

Strange...I have no qualms with the GT insert. I've bagged all the parts separately, and they all fit in the slots, with the boards sitting on top.

It's just very floppy cardboard, is all. I guess you could argue that it's on par with something like Power Grid's insert, but that's not really good enough (for me) for a game with so many little bits. When I get the expansion, I'm probably going to design my own insert.

Not a sin! I removed mine all the time. Inserts are rarely designed to work with the game components. Some do and those are fantastic, but even those sometimes don't keep the game from getting all messy, so I tend to side on putting them in baggies and removing the inserts. Ideally I would love to remove the box as well and organize them better.

I, on the other hand, keep the inserts on nearly every game I own.
But not on GT. This insert had to go, its terrible.

I'm waiting on a copy of the anniversary edition. I usually keep the inserts. Is the anniversary edition the same or does it have a better insert?
