The city of Megalopolis. While the people of Megalopolis can always count on the Freedom Four to protect them from dangers foreign, domestic, and intergalactic; they cannot always be in the right place at the right time to save everyone. For the past few months since their first fight with Baron Blade, Tachyon has been working on a defense system with the Wraith thanks to a generous grant from from Maia Montgomery and Montgomery Industries. Their program has generated excellent results that have created a new system known as Omniscient Tracking Interception System or Omnitron for short. With the system days from being ready, Dr. Meridith Stinson a.k.a. Tachyon finishes up another project she's been working on for a couple of years.
Sitting literally in an icy home, Ryan Frost grows tiresome of the silence. For 2 years he has tried to refuse Dr. Stinson's offer to live a normal life inside of a cryo suit after her successful operation brought him out of his coma. Not wanting to be a hero and wracked with guilt from the death of his wife 20 years ago, Frost sees his predicament as punishment and an ironic sense of vengeance. Every day, Tachyon has tried to persuade Frost to move on and everyday, he gives the same answer. After two years, both seem to be losing hope that Frost will ever rejoin society and continue to choose solitude. It is on this day however that Tachyon decides enough is enough and presents Frost with his cryo suit.
Manufactured as a small-scale form of Omnitron that is specifically calibrated to be non-sentient and provide a cold temperature for survival for Frost, the suit is a gift that he refuses to wear. Meanwhile, at Aldred Industries, their XK 9000-Alpha is about to go online. You may have heard of them in the news as they saw themselves as the best solution to combat the recent villains that have come to Megalopolis. Their new mobile robot factory could produce drones and units to combat any situation that arose. With the media in attendance for activation, Aldred Industries powers its XK 9000 and sends a surge through the city that causes blackouts all across Megalopolis.
As she is transferring the program to her main computer back in Rook City using 2880 bit encryption, the XK hijacks the signal and begins to rewrite its own program.
"Tachyon, what is going on?"
"I don't know Wraith, something is taking over the signal. Nothing on earth is capable of hacking this encryption unless they are faster than me. It would literally have to be thinking."
An alarm blares as the monitor shifts to Aldred Industries' XK 9000-Alpha rampaging downtown.
"I'm guessing the insurance for the city is about to get a whole lot more expensive..." mutters Tachyon. "Freedom Four, downtown NOW!"
As the rampaging robot makes his way through downtown, the Freedom Four arrive on the scene. Omnitron arms a disintegration ray as Legacy is hit by a deployed S-84 Attack Drone. "Protocol 1. Destroy all life," mutters Omnitron.
"We choose to protect life," shouts Legacy as he hits Omnitron with a back-handed fist and galvanizes the team. Tachyon rapidly recons around Omnitron to look for weaknesses as Bunker uses a grenade launcher to hit both Omnitron and the S-84, destroying the disintegration ray's mechanism. Wraith creates an impromptu invention of throwing knives hitting Omnitron and destroying the S-84.
Miss Information and the paparazzi arrive on the scene causing the heroes to have less options. "This is Miss Information live on the scene. A rampaging robot is on the loose as the Freedom Four attempt to stop it..."
"Adaptive plating subroutine. Execute. S-84 deployed." The S-84 fires upon Legacy once again.
Legacy finds a fallen flag and picks it up bringing an inspiring presence that calls the heroes to fight harder. Tachyon uses blinding speed to knock out Omnitron's adaptive plating subroutine performing a rapid recon in the process. Bunker calls for an ammo drop as Wraith programs her targeting computer. "Get out of here you morons or you will die," shouts the Wraith.
Miss Information and the paparazzi angrily leave the scene. Omnitron's gaze turns to them as it targets begins to target innocents. "Deploying S-84 attack drone. Deploying S-85 healing drone." The two S-84s hit Legacy and Bunker with their beams as the S-85 repairs Omnitron.
Legacy intercepts Omnitron's damaging gaze, not allowing him to hurt anyone else. He galvanizes the team as Tachyon uses quick insight and is exhausted a bit for pushing to the limits and rapidly reconning on Omnitron. Bunker deploys an omni-cannon from the ammo drop and fires his grenade launcher to destroy the repair drone and one S-84 while damaging the other. Finally Wraith deploys smoke bombs to scramble Omnitron's targeting system and destroys the damaged S-84 and hits Omnitron.
Omnitron's targeting of innocents continues to blast Legacy as Police backup arrives and opens fire on Omnitron. Omnitron attempts* to hit Legacy and the other Heroes but misses due to the smoke bombs. Omnitron follows up with an interpolation beam and the police leave the scene.
Legacy uses a motivational charge to hit Omnitron while Tachyon is once again exhausted from pushing to the limits. She then uses blinding speed to get rid of Omnitron's interpolation beam, hypersonic assault to hit Omnitron and his targeting system, while using rapid recon on Omnitron. Bunker puts 3 ammo into the omni-cannon and fires the grenade launcher to destroy Omnitron's targeting system and damage Omnitron's exoskeleton. Finally, Wraith uses a jab on Omnitron and fires throwing knives at its exoskeleton.
An S-84 is deployed by Omnitron and takes a hostage as it hits Bunker and another S-85 is created to heal Omnitron. Legacy uses a motivational charge to hit Omnitron and heal all as Tachyon is again hurt from pushing the limits and continues to rapidly recon. Bunker loads another 3 ammo into his omni-cannon and fires upon Omnitron and the drones with his grenade launcher. Wraith finishes the job with her throwing knives as the S-84 and S-85 are destroyed and Omnitron is hit.
The hostage situation continues as Omnitron deploys an electropulse explosive and adaptive plating subroutine. Legacy uses the motivational charge to damage the explosive and Tachyon is again affected by pushing to the limits while doing another rapid recon. Bunker loads 2 more ammo and uses the grenade launcher to hit the explosive and Omnitron. Wraith uses her throwing knives to hit the explosive and Omnitron deflects her attack on him with the adaptive plating.
Freeing the hostage with the last strike, the bomb explodes and hits the heroes just as they get away. The Freedom Four are knocked into a nearby alley as an S-85 heals Omnitron and an S-84 is deployed and hits the Wraith. Legacy gets a surge of strength and charges to hit Omnitron. Tachyon having gathered all the intel she could from previous runs is exhausted from pushing to the limits and dons her HUD goggles. Using lightning reflexes, she destroys the explosive. Being fleet of foot, she finds more options for attacks available and hits with a nimble strike to hit the S-85. Bunker adds 3 ammo to the omni-cannon, enters turret mode. He fires the grenade launcher to destroy the S-84 and S-85. He then fires his Omni-cannon to punch a hole in Omnitron, causing his power to flicker for a brief moment. The Wraith throws a grappling hook to eliminate the adaptive subroutine and hits Omnitron with her throwing knives.
As a monorail rounds the corner, Tachyon yells, "No! No more plummeting monorails! For the love of all that is good, the construction guys are overworked!" Omnitron powers up and deploys an S-85 healing drone along with an electromagnetic railgun as the drone heals Omnitron.
Legacy dons his Legacy ring and galvanizes the group. Using a motivational charge, he destroys the S-85. Tachyon is hit from pushing to the limits, but using quick insight and being fleet of foot she uses blinding speed to stop the train. "Thank goodness. I'm sure everyone will agree that this train needs to be decommissioned." Using two lightspeed barrages, Omnitron is beaten back from his attack. Bunker adds 3 more ammo to the omni-cannon and deploys a flak cannon. He takes aim at Omnitron's core and fires to expose it. Finally launching his omni-cannon once again, he destroys Omnitron.
As the robot crashes down, the red light of its eye flickers. Unfortunately, the wreckage lands on Bunker, damaging his systems and crippling his suit. Omnitron cries out,"down...loa...d com...ple.e.e...te." A signal from the Freedom Four computer alerts the heroes that something is going on from the Mars Wagner Base.
"Oh crud," yells Tachyon. "That thing downloaded itself into the base's computer systems. That base is where we've been preparing weapons to use in the event of another invasion. Unfortunately, a count down has started where it will set off all weapons and they are aimed right at Earth!"
"How long do we have?"
"We only have an hour Legacy and it's at least 3 months by shuttle to get to Mars."
"Doesn't that give us plenty of time to intercept?"
"Unfortunately, no," replies Wraith. "Montgomery Industries has been working with Tachyon to develop folding technology that causes the technology to travel light years to anywhere those computers tell them to go within minutes."
"If we don't do something," Legacy begins somberly, "the Earth is doomed.
To Be Continued...
*When Omnitron attempted to use sedative fletches, it aimed at Legacy, but was redirected at the Wraith, since she was technically covered by the heroic interception, she and others are not hit by it because of immunity.
Great report! Just thought you might want to check out the game's backstory for Miss Information - she's a Freedom Five secretary, not a reporter. I look forward to reading your future battles.
Yeah, I do know she is their secretary, but that is in an alternate timeline. So with her I figure I would use her as part of the paparazzi and eventually work her into being their secretary. Besides, the reporter kind of looks like Miss Information on the card sans glasses.
What I am curious about though is if I did play the sedatives card correctly. As I said, I assumed smoke bombs redirected the attack from Legacy to the Wraith, but the Wraith was covered by Legacy's interception which gave her immunity. So should Legacy have lost his ongoing cards or no?
