Bought Sentinels today, looking thru the rulebook, and the first thing that hit me was how much the layout and style reminded me of the old pc game "Freedom Force". I suppose some similarity is unavoidable, since they are both comic book inspired, but still.

Maybe someone worked on both? Or these guys just loved Freedom Force?

It's possible, but I think it's more likely that they draw inspiration from similar sources.

Yeah I think it is more a case of two things inspired by old-time comics bothcend up looking like old-time comics.

Would make for an excellent cross-over though, huh? ninja

BTW, I thought the same thing a couple of years ago when I first got into SotM. Totally reminded me of that pretty decent PC game.

Now I feel like going back and playing Freedom Force (2002) again.

Or maybe making custom Sentinels cards for them.

Or both.

Playing through a PC game once is a big achievement for me. I played through this game twice. It's that good. I will play it again someday (I'm currently unplugged).

I haven't been over to Freedom Reborn in an age. I wonder if anyone over there is working on a SotM mod . . .

I also thought immediately of Freedom Force when I first played Sentinels. Love both games.

People talk about the inevitable Marvel/DC comparisons when describing Sentinels heroes and villains, but I think those comparisons are even more relevant when comparing to Freedom Force. A loose comparison can be made between all of the base Sentinels heroes and FF characters, with the exception of Absolute Zero who is truly unique:

Legacy = Minuteman
Bunker = Man-Bot
Tachyon = Bullet
Ra = El Diablo
Tempest = Man O' War
Visonary = Mentor
Haka = Iron Ox
Wraith = Liberty Lad
Fanatic = Blackbird

Sentinels fans that are looking for a similar feel in a computer game and don't mind somewhat dated graphics should definitely check out Freedom Force.

Otherwise all the other comparison's are spot on.

Absolute Zero is more like Man-Bot than Bunker is, with the whole feeling that he's unstable.

PS. A Man-Bot deck could be pretty cool.

I agree. From an emotional tone I also think El Diablo and Ra are a weaker match. A passionate Latino vs an archeologist . . .

Yeah, they really aren't anything alike in terms of their personalities. I was thinking more along the lines of the fact that neither has superpowers and both rely on gadgets to get by.

Who would be a closer comparison to Wraith? Possibly BlackJack from FFvTTR, another gadget type but he isn't really anything like Wraith either. He might be more like Expatriate. Any comparison to Wraith is probably pretty weak.

Also I like the Man-Bot = Absolute Zero take. And Bunker is a bit like Sky King, so in this just for fun exercise of matching up a Sentinels character to an FF character that would work.

More than anything this discussion makes me want to fire up FF again, it's been awhile.

Great, now in my head Bunker sounds like a guy doing a bad Jimmy Stewart impression.

The game is over a decade old, maybe the dev/pub might appreciate some inbound income for IP usage?

A man can dream.

Maybe, but I think a fan expansion is rather more feasible.
