So the original game Witty Chronos was for 3 players minimum but this supports 2. Can you guys comment on what has changed to make it work for 2?

Yes, there is a 2player mode supported.

First you have to understand why the original game did not support 2p. When two players both have a sandtimer on a card, the first player to quit will let the oppponent take the card. But there is an incentive for them to solve the conflict: if it lasts too much, another player will win the game. This fails for 2p, so the game was broken.

We added a fix using anti-freezing rules and neutral sandtimers which allows to play with 2. This works well, and it is a different game experience (multiplayer game is largely based on bargaining, and this aspect vanishes, of course).

Here are a draft of the English rules. There are probably some unclear points due to hasty and bad translation, and some details are subject to change.

The 2p game gives a different feeling (no bargain) and some people didn't like it. So indeed it's probably better to keep the minimum number of players at 3. Anyway there is no extra material needed for the 2p game and I'll post the rules here.

Here is the 2 players (advanced) variant

1) Always play the full game (cities+gods)

2) Each player controls 3 sandtimers of the same color as usual. He also
has 2 sandtimers from another color, which he can put into play whenever he wants. Once put in play, the extra sandtimers become neutral and cannot be moved any more (however, they can be put into Hell)

3) It is forbidden to move a sandtimer if the result of the move is that the 3 sandtimers of player A are on the same 3 piles as the 3 sandtimers of player B.

This variant is fun but is very different from the multiplayer game.
