The last two seasons of DS9 were on my shame-list - but thanks to Netflix I'm finally catching up.

I'm about halfway through the final season. Here's the question:

How do you feel about Ezri Dax?

Ezri is in no way as good as Jadseah (sp?) ever was, but she does become a bit more interesting as the series ended, especially when she & Worf finally start talking to each other again.

Of all of the major characters, she's my least favorite.

If it was personality per inch of height, she'd have a good shot a title. My goodness she's a tiny little thing (especially near Worf). Even Quark can look her in the eye.

Well, having lost touch with DS9 before she came along, I googled her to find out who she was.

The third google suggestion after typing 'Ezri Dax' was Ezri Dax Annoying...

wonder if that's a bad sign?

WAAAAAAAAYYYYY hotter than Jadzia, so that's a plus.

They didn't really do that much with the character, though.

You are truth.

Also, Mirror Universe Ezri --- thumbsup

That aside I just liked the character a lot more once Jadzia was killed off. The Jadzia character always felt... fake? I dunno I never found her to be a believable character. Ezri on the other hand was a lot more fun and easier to identify with.

Why couldn't we have gotten Mirror Universe Ezri? THAT would have been interesting.

I liked her.

I don't know that I would rate one Dax over the other as a whole (and if I may be completely shallow for a moment, both were gorgeous).

Nicole de Boer is a better actress than Terry Farrell, but they didn't do as much with her character -- though to be fair, they only had one year, and they were wrapping up all the plotlines. But she definitely improves as she goes along -- which is true of virtually all the characters on DS9. Look at pretty much any of the regulars in early season 1 and you'll see what I mean.

DS9 had a surfeit of good characters, really. There were very few regular or recurring characters I didn't enjoy watching KEIKO O'BRIEN unlike most Trek shows.

Most of the "Ezri episodes" annoy me, but she makes a great supporting character. Like Quark.

When I first watched the series, I hated her character, but after watching it in syndication I've come to like her. She's a good character, once you stop comparing her to Jadzia.

I think they would have been better off not making her a Dax though, or even a Trill.

I like Ezri. She might be seen as disappointing after Jadzia, because that's how she was written at the start. But that's just good drama to me. I liked her family troubles episode. In general, episodes that don't end entirely in sweetness and light are more substantive.

I liked Ezri much better than Jadzia. Hated especially the whole Worf/Jadzia marriage baloney. When they got married, it took the series to places I wish it didn't go. So I was glad that Ezri came along and her character as a counselor was better than Jadzia as a science officer.

I really liked Ezri; Jadzia was always too stone-faced for my liking.

On the other hand, it could also be that I enjoyed Season 7's stories a lot more. Especially the casino arc.

The official term is: "I'll be in my bunk..."

Anyway, I personally liked Ezri about as much as Jadzia. They've done some cool things with Jadzia but overall I trouble connecting with that whole 7-lifetimes-know-it-all character. You can't really do much with a character who's already "done everything"... Ezri was more interesting because of her struggle with that situation which she never really wanted in the first place. While that made her a bit annoying at times I feel she had a lot more potential. And she was way hotter than - yeah - pretty much every other regular or recurring character in any of the Trek shows.

I really liked her character. It is too bad she only had the 1 season to develop. In many ways she was a far better character. Jadzia was really a Mary-Sue. She could do everything well, and really did no wrong. Don't get me wrong, liked her, but her character was the same as it was in the first episode as it was in the last episode. She never grew.

Heh...watching another episode and it starts with Ezri quipping "I know when I'm not wanted", which I thought was a intended to be a funny little nod to fan reaction to the character.

It then proceeds to be the third Ezri-centric episode of the season.

Actaully, in the first couple seasons, she's kind of dull and boring. Always reacting with some ethereal calm. There were a lot of suggestions that Curzon lived a bit on the wild side, but it took about three seasons before Jadzia began to relax and that devil-may-care attitude came out.

That was the Jadzia I liked. The one who dragged Kira into the holosuite. The one who punctured Worf's little bubble of pride.

True, but the third season is where DS9 really finds it stride and got the story/stories going. The first 2 seasons they just kinda floundered around.

I did consider saying that, actually, but thought it was a bit too obvious. Besides, this way I got to make a Farscape reference instead of a Firefly reference, and Farscape doesn't get enough love, while Firefly seems to be everyone's darling (I love both).
