Sorry, I hate, really hate, the black oceans.

I got headaches from trying to play the first "A&A" revised edition with its very deep blue seas. These graphics would prompt me to reconsider my K'st support participation.

Please don't do this!!!

It's OK, but I think it's distracting. If you change to black, then all the other colors probalby need to be adjusted. That said, I always thought [geekurl=http://www.boardgamegeek.com/image/293902/risk-black-ops]Risk: Black Ops[/geekurl] did "Black" right.

On a different note: I like the reference to the original game with the graphics (the edgy lines added an edgy feel to the game in 1984). Today it just looks cliche. I'd rather play on a more modern/classic maps.

Just my meaningless .02.

I love the original design with the horizontal or slanted lines. Dark blue worked well. If black was really desired, I would prefer the sort of look that was used for a Fortress America redux:

I like the whole "Wargames" motif as it fits the 80's MAD theme.

EDIT: too many Ds in Mutually Assured Destruction

No to black oceans. I agree with the headache and distraction statements.

I'm with Barry here. I didn't like the dark oceans in Axis and Allies Revised one bit. Light blue for me, please.

What do you guys think about the gradient ocean? I’ve got a graphic designer that hates it. I kind of like the effect. Makes me think of the polar ice caps and warmer oceans around the equator.

Marshall,

Personally, I don't see a problem with the gradient effect in the picture you posted. I'm not sure why your graphic artist doesn't like it. The only possible issue I see is that the white lines that divide the sea zones are hard to distinguish near the top of the map, but I'm sure that could be fixed quite easily in the final artwork.
