I started a campaign with my fiance and she agreed to be the overlord. I am controlling 3 heroes. We have finished first blood(hero win), Fat Goblin(hero win, but barely) and The Cardinal's Plight(OL win, very close). We also happened to do a side quest from Lair of the Wyrm, where I luckily won the Aurium mail.

The Three Heroes I chose (before I picked up the conversion kit yesterday) are Ashrian as Spirit Speaker, Reynhart as champion, and Jain as the thief.

Builds so far

Ashrian
Leather Armor
Iron Spear http://www.descentinthedark.com/2nd/iron-spear/
Skills
Stone Skin http://www.descentinthedark.com/2nd/stoneskin/
Healing Rain http://www.descentinthedark.com/2nd/healing-rain/
Drain Spirit http://www.descentinthedark.com/2nd/drain-spirit/

1xp unused

Reynhart
Iron Battle Axe http://www.descentinthedark.com/2nd/iron-battleaxe/
Horn of Courage http://www.descentinthedark.com/2nd/horn-of-courage/
Aurium mail http://www.descentinthedark.com/2nd/aurium-mail/

Skills
Valor of Heroes http://www.descentinthedark.com/2nd/valor-of-heroes/
Glory of Battle http://www.descentinthedark.com/2nd/glory-of-battle/

2xp Unspent

Jain
Throwing Knives http://www.descentinthedark.com/2nd/throwing-knives/
Lucky Charm http://www.descentinthedark.com/2nd/lucky-charm/
Iron Shield http://www.descentinthedark.com/2nd/iron-shield/
Crossbow http://www.descentinthedark.com/2nd/crossbow/

Skills
Greedy http://www.descentinthedark.com/2nd/greedy/
Appraisal http://www.descentinthedark.com/2nd/appraisal/
Sneaky http://www.descentinthedark.com/2nd/sneaky/

1xp unspent

OK so I have been getting knocked out quite a bit, except Reynhart since receiving the Aurium mail. The spirit speaker also seems to be really lacking on healing. I heard that class was more of an offensive healer type, but it was never used by anyone in all the games where I was the overlord, so I wanted to give it a chance.

I do really like the champion build and I am considering building a small group that stays within 3 spaces of him at all times, at least that is where I am coming from with my strategy. I love the valor tokens and he can give at least one to another hero per turn.

He currently has 2 unspent xp so I was considering giving him him Stoic Resolve http://www.descentinthedark.com/2nd/stoic-resolve/ seems like a pretty cool ability that could allow for him to recover a fatigue, or even better ashrian to recover a fatigue if she stays adjacent to him. Then drain spirit is essentially a little more powerful(adding the heart for valor) and free with stoic resolve due to using the valor.

The spirit speaker I am having a tough time with thinking about which skill to get next. I was liking Nature's Bounty http://www.descentinthedark.com/2nd/natures-bounty/ but taking an entire action to rest kinda sucks just to heal herself, 4 hearts. So really I am stuck on what would be the best most efficient use of the hero synergy.

Please I will take all advice on anything related to these three classes and how they would work well together. My fiance loves knocking down heroes and since getting the Aurium mail she focuses on knocking down the thief and the spirit speaker often.

Thanks for the input

The big thing you'll want is to get some armor for your characters. The big problem here is that Jain and Ashrian both have 5 Speed, so giving them the Chainmail would drop that to 4, and giving them the Leather Armor isn't worth much.

For the Spiritspeaker, I find Nature's Bounty to be pretty useful. The last time I overlorded it was against a Spiritspeaker who had the Aurium Mail and Nature's Bounty. He was basically unkillable, despite having only 8 HP. You use Rest Actions a lot as a Spiritspeaker anyway, since Healing Rain takes so much Fatigue.

My recommendation would be to get the Chainmail and give it to Reynhart, then give the Aurium Mail to Ashrian. With her alive, it doesn't matter if your other two heroes get downed, because one Healing Rain can pick them both back up.

Thanks for the advice, I never thought to just give the spirit speaker the armor. I just instinctually like to give the tank the armor. It is true about healing rain being able to revive the other heroes so that will be very useful. I guess drain spirit could also be used to revive downed heroes seeing its effect allows another hero to gain a heart.

I am now wondering if Reynhart should take stoic resolve or gain another xp and go with For the cause http://www.descentinthedark.com/2nd/for-the-cause/ thereby having another stone skin type of ability.

I would say that Stoic Resolve would beat For the Cause any day. Given that you have Glory of Battle, valour come by easily. In a 4 player game, Stoic resolve can allow fatigue recovery of up to 8 per turn (though realistically it's around 4-5) which is a very big deal.

Once you get Inspiring Presence, you should have no fear on valour acquisition for Jain and Ashrian (though Reynhart, the champion himself, would still have some difficulty gaining valour).

If you want your party to almost never run out of fatigue, Vigor would be good for Ashrian. By then you'll be absolutely spoilt for choice on how to spend your surges. Otherwise Cloud of Mists is always good.

The problem with this party setup is almost definitely the lack of AoE, in addition to the overall squishiness. Ashrian may overcome that with Tempest, but she's quite unreliable on willpower check. In that case, do consider Shared Pain, an easily overlooked skill.

I played a spiritspeaker throughout an entire campaign i only got cloud of mists for the finally but this can be a gamechanger imo basically your group will be harder to kill than shadow dragons. Just watch the attacks of the ol closely and imagine if she would have to spend a surge every time to hit you so no surges no dmg at all. It also prevents conditions and other surge abilities that are annoying. You can read my campaign session report for further details in the forum.
Good luck

Yes, but smart OL might place his monsters within 3 spaces of OL, especially if they are small, thus avoiding damage as well.
