I'm loathe to throw anything away from a box of anything. It serves me well at moving time or resale time. However, with countersheet remnants I can't think of any use at all and I toss them.

Though, having learned from Ric, I now cut out a game identifier in order to, well, I don't know really.

Frame or sprue.

Does anyone else hold the empty sprue up to the light to confirm it is empty and then throw the sprue at the trashcan like a frisbee? That's a ritual I enjoy.

Absolutely. This often occurs at a later time after all of the punching has been completed.

Your post reminded me that I used to LOVE doing that, for reasons I can't remember.

I have to resurrect that ritual - thank you!

You'd think.

I appreciate a good sprue; why, I don't know.
My wife does not appreciate a good sprue.

It is a ritual where I try to hide a sprue under the insert before she sees it and frisbees it into the garbage can. Often times my sprues will last months before she discovers them for a hail Mary toss into the round file.

I haven't "sprue'd" in a while. I'm sure I've got some unpunched games I can work on....

Except for 1914: Twilight in the East, which requires you to cut up your sprues in order to salvage the "spines" to use as Army Area of Attachment boundary markers. They're even labeled on the sprue for you! You can see them on the board in this pic:

Depending on the width of the frame, some useful spare counters can be cut from it. Frames with angled partss (FFG's frames are great for this) are often useful as construction material for field fortifications for miniatures games.

The recent "Zpocalypse" frames can be trimmed to make "edge" pieces to finish off outside edges of the board.

Often I save enough of the frames to "build up" the box contents to the top of the inside box in order to provide added support to the box lid. When storing game boxes in stacks, this helps preserve the shape and strength of the box.

Frames can also be useful to lay in the very bottom of more flimsy boxes for added rigidity.

Long sides of counter frames can be useful as quick move/range measures for tactical games; simply mark them in two-or four-hex increments, depending on the game.

With enough of VPG's current laser-cut wooden spruces, you could make a thatched house for yourself.
