Hi, one question. What is the purpose and what advantage is achieved to place troops in reserve in one Pitched Battle?

Thanks!

The side that wins the second sequence wins the pitched battle.

So you may hold off some troops in the first sequence to limit potential damage and put them into the first line to increase your odds in the second sequence.

Similarly, you may hold off some cavalry in the first sequence so there are more available for pursuit after the second sequence.
