I've been hunting don a copy of Manila for some time now, and I finally finagled a trade for it. The copy I will be getting is new in shrink. As much as I ant to play this game, I know it's valuable and tough to find.

Should I open the game when it arrives, or keep it in shrink? Why?

Have you been hunting it for an investment opportunity or to play?

Games are the worst investment on the planet. Pop the shrink.

Play it. Play it. Play it.

No game should remain in shrink (unless you have multiple copies).

I don't think there is enough profit to be made for me to keep it in shrink. If the game was worth something like 400-500$, then I would probably keep it in shrink and try to resell it, depending what I paid for it.

Not knowing what you are trading/paying for it, it looks like the game can be had for about 100$, and I doubt it will go up very much, so there doesn't seem to be enough profit to make it a tough decision.

In short, just play it.

Games are NEVER investments, they're speculation at best.

Open it, play it. The difference in value between shrink and opened, if you ever sell it, will have been made up by you enjoying the game.

Games are for fun I will tell people how much a game we are playing is worth and flaunt it. Beyond that - the worth is only in the fun!

There are three reasons I see to get a game.

1) To play it
2) To resell/trade it
3) To enjoy having it sit on the shelf looking pretty

If you got it for 2 then there are easier ways to make money, go do one of them. Otherwise 2 is only good as a backup plan to recoup your investment when you tire of the game.

1 requires you open it and I don't see why an opened copy wouldn't be just as good for 3.

play it - you sit on it and next thing you know RG will reprint and you will have lost all those opportunities to play it forever and lost out on your investment.

I paid ~$100 for a still in shrink copy of RoboRallyon ebay in 2000 (or so). Now its still sitting in shrink on my game shelf and I could replace it with the reprint for 1/3 of that. Now, in theory, since it appears there are some differences between the original edition and the reprint, I might be able to still sell my version for more than I paid for it but it would probably take more time and work than I am willing to exert to find the buyers that are willing to pay the premium for those differences.

Sadly, I did NOT purchase it as an "investment" - I just can't ever convince anyone to play it with me.... cry At this point I think it has become a point of honor among my gaming friends to shut me down on this game....

Did you buy it so that you could re-sell it?

If you bought it to play it, open that box right up!

If you decide not to open it, at least sell it quickly so someone can enjoy it.
