Hello there, I just learned today of this game.

I also incidentally read the short story and I'm fired up on this game!

I like the art of the box, but what I can't say I like, that, in fact, turns me off, is the art on the cards.

Note that I always loved the general Warfrog art, but these cards really don't appeal to me. I hope they're not going to be final, and they're only for playtest of "first draft" like cards.

Do you share my same feeling?

Are you looking at the art on the pnp cards or the sample card on the Kickstarter page?

I think the ones shown on the Kickstarter page are excellent.

I had in mind the ones from the Kickstarter page done in black and white.

Those cards reminds the ones from Liberte a bit.

It also doesn't look attractive but it's quite okay once you play the game.
I hope it will be the same case with ASiE.
I would prefer colourful art like the one form A Few Acres of Snow which is really well done.

I like the back. I really, really dislike the cards as they are.

It may have a retro feel, yet, I don't need a retro game, but a modern game with a retro like art. It reminds me of 221B Baker Street: The Master Detective Game somehow.

Black-white arts are excellent but cards overall design is poor, especially headline plate shake

Although I think the overall card design could be tweaked I personally like the art, especially the black and white portraits.

I have to say I love the art very much. It goes together very well with the feeling the game gives.

The headline plate is perhaps the only weak part, in my opinion. But even that isn't so bad, I've seen worse.

I was just about to post an own thread on this...

I don't like the cards as they are.

Why b/w? What is the point in having a coloured card back if the fronts are all black and white?

Maybe I'm spoiled with the artwork used for Discworld. I don't know.

I can only hope for some colour...

My guess is it's trying to replicate old newspaper art from the time period. The version of the short story you can download online also has the look of an old newspaper complete with advertisements.

The b/w lithographic style is very Victorian. It fits the theme very well. Discworld is fantasy so b/w wouldn't fit it well. Different themes, different styles.

Sure, guys, nothing at all against that. But why then the Elder Sign-ish backs? It's just not coherent.

I like the idea of the fronts, but I find they look pretty meh, all around. The picture of Moriarty is my best example, it just doesn't look good. Old newspaper background, I love, general bottom half of the card, I like a lot - but the art is so bland.

They remind me of old CoC Chaosium source books... I am not crazy about the art, but it's not a deal breaker for me either.

The card artwork is not final - just a suggestion of what they will look like. The title banner will be changed to make it fit better. I also want to experiment with adding some colour to the images. Fortunately, with modern technology, this is easier to do now.

The black and white art is really attractive to me. I can't really explain why, it just fit the theme. But it would still be interesting to see some alternatives. Perhaps do a poll here on BGG to see what people think and prefer?

Good news!

I'm still not sure about whether or not I like the newspaper artwork.

I guess we're all having Arkham Horror/Elder Sign/ all the other Ameritrash on mind.

I tend to have positive feelings towards the idea of a small game (something like Mr. Jack) or even a pnp game using this kind of style.

I must admit that I expect something else from a larger (Martin Wallace-) boardgame with the given card backs and everything else in Treefrog's repertoire.

However, I've pressed the pledge button in the very moment I've come across the game here

I have never been disappointed with a Martin Wallace game, so what ever the final design I'm sure it will fit thematically and functionally. Can't wait to get my hands on this game. Oh yeah I also can't wait for my copy of Moongha.

I really don't know why I don't like the illustrations. I mean, they are competently done, and somewhat Victorian. I don't think it's the lack of colour. Maybe it's because the "item" cards are TOO abstract for me.

I might like them better if there was more Mythos sprinkled in here and there. Right now they just look like reproductions from a Victorian magazine.
