According to the BBC news website here the UK treasury will be releasing a new fiver with Churchill on the reverse of it. An extract from his 1940 House of Commons speech is printed underneath his portrait.

However, the note won't be in circulation until 2016 though!

A boyhood hero of mine! And we in the U.S.A. get to claim him also, since his mother was American!

A civil war scholar as well. He wrote several books on the civil war and spent a great deal of time in the 1930s touring American Civil War battlefields doing research.

Is it that Churchill never smiled, or we just don't want to remember him in a good mood? We only ever see portraits with that "I'm gonna kill you" look in his eyes.

I dunno...he looks kinda happy here...

..admittedly, though, you won't find too many images of the man smiling like a loon...too serious of a life, I'm afraid.

Did a google images search for "churchill smiling". But yeah I agree the iconic images of Churchill that tend to be used most all have that famous Churchill glower.

My favorite photo. I could just picture that if the Germans had invaded England and had come to arrest Winston- this is how he would have greeted them...
