So, I dislike Apple. I think they're overpriced. However, I want to play boardgames on the iPad, and the android board games are minimal.

So, what's the cheapest I can get by with to play all boardgames now and for the foreseeable future?

Which games are available, and do they have online multiplayer? Or is it all local multiplayer?

Thanks.

Here's a list of games I have on my iPad currently:

Puerto Rico
San Juan
Scotland Yard

Summoner Wars
Medici
Modern Art
Bang!
Through the Desert
Ra
High Society
Wizard
Nueroshima Hex
Small World
Elder Sign
Carcassonne
Catan
Caylus
Money
Ghost Stories
Forbidden Island
Hey! That's my Fish!
It's Alive!
Food Fight!
TimeLine
Yggdrasil
Nightfall
Fistful of Penguins
Le Havre
Tigris & Euphrates
Ascension
Zombie Dice
Noir
Fealty
Samurai
Fortune City
Alien Frontiers
Can't Stop
Monopoly
Life
Pathology (Tsuro rip-off, but a good one)
Werewolf
Magic 2013
Battleship
Yahtzee
Checkers
Risk
Set
Dominant Species
Kingdom Builder
Stone Age
Lost Cities
Gubs
Fluxx
For the Win
Collapsible D
Penny Arcade: Gamers vs Evil
Hacienda
Whoowasit?
Take it Easy
Tikal
Talisman Prologue
Kingdoms

Eclipse is coming out soon and Agricola is on the way, not to mention a shit ton of others. This was the reason I went to the iPad and never looked back.

Most of the games I have are multiplayer (online and local) enabled, but if you want to know specifics, feel free to ask.

As for the cheapest to get by - these games go up and down in price all the freaking time. In most cases, unless the game was something I NEEDED to own (Hacienda, Puerto Rico, San Juan) I waited for a sale. Most of those games I got for under $2.00.

I recommend dropping the extra cash to get the new retina display iPad - just because the games looking completely amazing. But the mini is a good choice.

For all the current games a refurb ipad 2 16Gb wifi only, would be $319 from apple. It's the same basic hardware as the ipad mini so should be good for future games for a while (but who really knows how long...)

Yeah, but would it be worth it to just spend the extra $300 and future-proof myself with a 32gig iPad 4?

How much does the average game cost?

If I'm spending $600, an then $10 a game extra, I'm looking at like $800 just to get started.

And I will probably only use it for boardgames. It is easy to find players online to play against at any time?

I think the retina screen would be worth it, but you asked for the cheapest option. My son doesn't think 16Gb is enough space and he does have to juggle apps a lot so I do agree with him. I have 64Gb and could probably use more.

I would not buy one right now, a new rev may be imminent.

Well, now that I check the latest rumors, it appears to be the Fall, so I misspoke when I said imminent.

Should I wait, or just buy it now?

What's the price it would drop? $100 at the most?

I don't want to wait until fall for $100.

Buy now then. I can't imagine the improvements will be any more than incremental anyway and yeah it's about a 100 drop.

Average game at launch $4.99

Like I said, they go on sale often.

Check out this list

Also I recommend you use the app called app shopper and set up notifications for apps you are interested in. It will let you know when things you've tagged go on sale.

It seems like most games are asynchronous multiplayer. Is it hard to find people to play? Is it hard to find people to play a live game?

Asynch multiplayer is the most popular way to play most games. It's usually difficult to arrange a live game other than with 2 player games. Also with async games you can play multiple games at once. I vastly prefer asynchronous multiplayer to live games.

I'm worried with asynchronous I'll never find people to play, or be in so many games that I won't know which is which.

Is it often that you find people to play the live asynchronous games with? I.e. you take turns in succession?

The games hook up via Game Center which we have a list of werewolfers on cassy, social networks like Facebook, or email. It's not that hard to find people to play with.

You also get notifications via the ios system when it is your turn. And yes you take turns in succession.

Yep.

Ticket to Ride: Europe is free this weekend, but it's still a great version of the game.

Well, I've wanted one for years, but always put it off in the hopes that game apps would include more computer or android. But that's obviously not going to happen for awhile.
