Is there any chance that the Avalon Hill magazine The General will ever be released in digital format? I enjoy the digital editions of Games International and I was hoping to be able to read some of those (seemingly) great Avalon Hill articles of past years.

I suspect that The General (along with so many game titles from Avalon Hill) is now the property of Hasbro.

A long time ago (maybe even before BGG) when I was reading the rec.games.board Usenet group someone suggested a collaborative effort to digitize the General and making it available. I was very much interested but I never heard from him again. I assume he was stopped by Hasbro.

Wow, what a collection you have! I have only a couple of copies remaining from the middle 1970's. It was a great magazine! That's how I found PBM opponents for a couple of AH games, way back then.

I wonder...because All Star Replay -- the sports magazine put out by AH, IS in digital format.

Of course, we're not referring to pristine copies - since the magazine doesn't exist that way (in any shape), all we're referring to is scans...it'd be different if the actual digitized original files could be converted (like the Boardgamer).

I have 3 cardboard boxes full of The General but it would be great if we could get it in pdf format.

And if anyone is still looking for it there's a game store in Athens that still sells a few copies.

I think The General belongs to Multiman Publishing, the same folks who own the rights to ASL.

As such, I don't think it's realistic that they'd go through the time and effort necessary to make them available on line digitally, *especially* for free.

I'd actually be willing to pay a reasonable fee--$3 or so--for a digital copy. I'm not will to spend over $20 a pop for the real thing, that's for sure.

MMP is a very small outfit, so, for better or worse, they don't have the resources to go back and scan/digitize all the old General magazines...or even host it on the web if they did. Now, if Curt Schilling would just kick in a *little* of the $14.5 Million he made last year, things might be different lol.

(I need the animation of the guy peering over the wall hehe)
