Just purchased a copy of Ys and looking forward to playing. I'm noticing that the game comes with 14 brokers yet the rules state that 11 are used in a 2-4 player game.

So I'm trying to figure out which 11 I'm supposed to use.

Any help?

On the first page of the original printing's rules, under Setup:

Quote:
Each player picks a color and takes a screen as well as 11 brokers (thus leaving three brokers of value 2 in the box) and the score marker (the valueless pawn) which suits their choice.

I'm not sure where setup is at in Rio's reprint; though I'm guessing the rule book is identical, or at least close. Look for the setup section at the beginning of the rules, and I'm sure you'll see the same there.

As the three extra brokers of value (2) are used as replacements for those sent to the king, this section should be in there somewhere.

Set aside 2,2,2, not three brokers that add up to a value of 2 (rule was vague)
