ACQUISITION board game ,New Release!!Greetings board game enthusiasts.

My name is Robert Wood.
I am the director of Trojan International Ltd, (a New Zealand based company)and the creator of ACQUISITION the newest board game to be launched in Whitcoulls stores throughout New Zealand. The game has been available in Whitcoulls stores since the 3rd October 2005 and Kmart Australia since 4 december 2005...to date we have had great success with sales sitting around 80% of retail stock. Great, considering our game has only been in the retail market for approximately 12 weeks and literally not much product branding.

THE GAME:
The object of the game is a race to "become the ultimate status champion"
In order to become the ultimate status champion you need to collect sets of silver and gold status symbols such as the SPORTS CAR, HOUSE, C.E.O OF A CORPORATION, LAUNCH AND HOLIDAY.
Along the way players will participate in AUCTIONS, LOTTERY DRAWS, DAY AT THE RACES, or A ROUND OF BLACK JACK AT THE CASINO. There is something for everyone in this game and worth taking a look for yourself. There is also a short game version for those in need of a fast game.

For more information and photos of our product you may view our website at

www.acquisitiongame.com

You can also purchase our game online via our website.

As the inventor of ACQUISITION I would certainly appreciate your feedback. Thankyou for your time
p.s WE ARE ALSO LOOKING FOR DISTRIBUTORS AND OR RETAIL STOCKISTS IN MOST COUNTRIES.

Kind regards
Rob Wood
Director

Hello Robert and welcome to BGG.

I'm very glad to hear that you are having success with your board game. Getting a game into stores must be a very challenging task.

At the risk of sounding like a snob, I think you'll find that the majority of users here are very different from the average K-mart crowd. You may not get much interest for your game here.

Personally, the theme of your game doesn't interest me (is life about acquiring 'status objects'?) and I'm not sure what the mechanics of the game are. Why is it 18+? Does it have adult themes?

Are you aware of the Board Game Designers Forum? http://www.bgdf.com/

Best of luck

Loved the feedback comment on the website:

"Why has it taken so long for someone to produce a board game for the mature person"

Congratulation for making a gamethumbsup
I think that getting to the American market would be a very hard task.
As millsyboy stated, you are dealling with a special crowd on this web site. Most of people here wait for others to review the game before spending 35$ acquiring it.

If I was designing a game, the first thing I would do when the game would get printed is to send a copy to the most notorious reviewers on this web site. Acctually not everyone, but all the one I think that might enjoy it.
Most of them can be found in this geeklist : http://www.boardgamegeek.com/geeklist.php3?action=view&listi...

Making a contest and have some games won would also be a good way to be better known.

I wish you luck in selling the game but I'm afraid the theme is enough to put me off from ever playing. Being surrounded by the the pursuit of "status" through material gain is tiresome enough in real life, without deciding to immerse myself in that scene during a boardgame...

Thankyou all for taking the time to make comments regarding our new product.

Some of you mentioned the mechanics of the game which should be described to give you a better understanding of how the game works....

The general concept of how the game works is built around collecting 3 of the 5 "gold status symbols to "become the ultimate status champion
The decision as to which 3 of the 5 status items you collect can change dramatically as the game unfolds as you may end up having to auction your items to other players if you land on a compulsory auction square. This is definately a fun element as the other players are all bidding on your item so you can end up with more cash than you originally paid for the item...the game has a jackpot square in the centre of the board to which all fines and payments are to be made. The purpose of this is to provide the prize pool for the LOTTERY and DAY AT THE RACES functions. One of the game components is a sand timer for the DAY AT THE RACES. The players place their bets and purchase a card from the racecourse square which has a 2 digit combination e.g 3-5. To start the race the person who landed on the racecourse square, flips the 1 minute sandtimer and each player take turns to try and spin the combination on their card. There are only 21 combination cards based on the maximum combination of two dice. The LOTTERY square fuinction is similiar but you only have one draw (or throw of the dice).
The 4 corner squares on the game board are ACTION squares because when you land on one of the corners you have to draw an action card from the centre of the game board. These cards have quirky instructions whereby you have to pay or receive credits based on the action on the card. You can also draw a card that allows you to advance to a silver status square of your choice.

To collect one (1) Gold status card you must first collect 4 x silver status symbols to obtain one of the gold status symbols ,

for example To collect "THE HOUSE" (GOLD SYMBOL) you are required to collect 4 silver status symbols (art collection, wine collection, furniture and section). To enable the purchase of these items when you land on the square with the appropriate status symbol you have to acquire credits VIA THE NUMEROUS ATM MACHINE SQUARES AROUND THE BOARD,although you do start with 50,000 credits, A wild card which you can use only once during the game (used as a strategic play)

The game also provides FUN ELEMENTS such as A DAY AT THE RACES, LOTTERY DRAW, AUCTIONS AND A ROUND OF BLACK JACK AT THE CASINO. These functions are designed to maintain the FUN element which is missing in some games.
The game is very light hearted and not "too heavy" which was important in our design parameters, and as someone mentioned that collecting status symbols was not the type of game that would interest them. It is appropriate to point out that the game is not continuously about collecting status symbols" as there are lots of other functions that create a laugh along the way. We tested the game on an age demographic of 11 to 56 and they all had amazing things to say.
The reason why we put recommended for 18+ was to protect ourselves from getting cauught up in leagl battles due to the fact that we have a betting element in the game. Silly really considering that there are poker sets in the marketplace that carry no age restriction..but hey , the world has become very PC indeed..and we are not wanting to upset the authorities.

Other than that we received an email from Tom Vasel who is going to review our game in the very near future so keep an eye out and thanks to TOM and others that spend endless hours reviewing these games to provide us with a NEUTRAL UNBIASSED reports.

Final word, someone mentioned the fact that we mentioned Kmart as a supplier of our product. We would like to point out that the time and cost to create and design such a product was enormous and the only way to cover cost was to promote it to the majors. We currently have 2 board game distributors in Australia who cover the regions as well as the cities so ACQUSITION will soon be available in smaller specialty "independants" stores
We will also have our game profiled at the sydney toy fair in Feb 06 and the AUSTRALIAN National toy fair in early march 06
Thanks for taking the time to read this

kind regards Rob Wood

Hi Robert

Your game has a page here on BGG:

http://www.boardgamegeek.com/game/21102

If you'd like to promote your game you can upload images to the game page, add a link to your website etc. If you have a PDF of the rules you can upload, that would be good too.

I saw your game at a K Mart in Sydney today so it looks like your distro is working out nicely!

yes I suppose it does have similarities to the "free parking' scenario as you can collect the jackpot only if you win the lottery draw or a day at the races....thanks for your comments
