I need a game which is addictive.

Not only addictive but a game like Rummikub or lost cities [it means games that doesn't take much time]

I get really bored to games like Monopoly or BlueMarble.

I like Settlers of Catan, but nobody in my family seems to know the rules.

So please recommend me a game that doesn't take much time, and a game which is addictive

I didn't a lot of boardgames, so you can just introduce me anyting except ones that are written already. Thanks.

For a family game with the trading aspect of Settlers (but a bit less scary for your family), try Bohnanza:

The most addicting games I have played to date are:

Settlers of Catan
RA

RA plays great with 2 and will take 30 - 40 minutes. It is even better with 3 and takes about an hour.

GO might be another good one for you
PENTE is similiar but much much lighter and plays very fast (10 minutes)

I could recommend lots more but those are the most "addicting" games I know of in that time frame. If you are open to playing card type games, Magic the Gathering can become VERY addicting. Have fun!

Thanks everyone. It's been a great help

I might as well try Blokus and Gemblo [<- is this the right spelling?]

I second the recommendation of RA
(http://www.boardgamegeek.com/game/12)

It's an addictive auction game that doesn't take much time to play, and the rules aren't too complicated, so you're family should be able to understand it.

Circus Flohcati is a real addictive game in my group. We just had to keep playing and keep playing. Each game only lasts 10 minutes or so anyway, as long as people aren't overanalyzing.

The games that get multiple plays in a row with my group are:

Blokus (2 or 4 players)
10 Days in Europe/Africa (2-4 players)
Deflexion (2 players only)
Loopin' Louie (2-4 players)

I'd have to say Knizia'a Samurai or Battle Line. My wife and I can play either one in about 10 minutes, so we always play several games in a row.

My wife and I have recently been playing Fjords often. It's strictly a two player game, but has definitely become addictive for us.

The most recent addictive group game has been Beowulf. Though it supports 2-5 (according to the box), it's best with 4 or 5. The reviews have been mixed, but my group really enjoys the exciting pace it provides us.

Magic the Gathering is addictive.

However, the reason I imagine a hypothetical Geek might want an addictive game (apart from the idea that it must ipso facto be a good game, which is faulty reasoning anyway), is that it means he can get his gaming 'fix' from a single purchase rather than many. Magic utterly destroys the rationale behind this, at least for the addict (I know you can play with that big box of commons you made from the kitchen scraps, but the addict will always want more cards....)

As a more positive suggestion: Lord of the Rings the Confrontation.

I second Hive as a recommendation! You can play it online, too, at the manufacturer's website.
