I just finished reading Greg Schloesser's latest Friday column and it got me to thinking. He states in one sentence:
Quote:
...after visiting numerous area churches, we found a home at Emmanuel Baptist Church.
Most of us already have found a home in the games we play, so why not start a boardgame church!

It would have to be a polytheistic religion of course, because of the number of deities that we already worship by playing games. So, I'm looking for ideas. Organized religion is BIG business... new churches (based on less tangible beliefs) are popping up all the time. How can we turn this into a cash cow (and maybe a tax write-off, too)?

Lots of questions spring to mind... How should our ceremonies be conducted? What should our place of worship look like? What shall we call the person who runs our service? Shall it mimic christian or muslim mythology or not? Is Colovini the god of abstracts?

Wow, how trippy. The staff at the FLGS where I work was discussing just this last week. Amassing a fortune by starting a religion based on gaming, that is.

Obviously, it's in the public conciousness, and just needs to be exploited.

So let us all pray to Saint Knizia for guidance, as we continue to play our eurogames to gain better insight into the Divine Game that is life.

The sons of Aarish lived in cities and they were called knights and they acted at the behest of the nobility and lo, they earned benefits for their work proportional to the size of the city they maintained and the prescence of the official shield earned the Sons of Aarish further benefit as did completeion of the city walls.

And the sons of Reshpach took to the roads an earned their benefits by becoming theives and robbing those who travel the lengths of the Kingdom and while the sons of Respach were despised by the sons of Aarish, the sons of Aarish were provided with twice the benefit of the sons of Reshpach and they were at peace.

And the sons of Armliglal became monks and remained cloistered in religious thought, and God smiled upon they and gave them benefit for being surrounded by pastoral farmland.

And the sons of Garneek became famers and tilled the land and God made their benefit very complicated as a punishement for Garneek's useless sacrifice of a wooden pig. And lo, Garneek's sons could not return from the field until the end of the seventh day.
