I know that the current first player starts the bidding in the auction. The rules say that the minimum bid is $1000. Is the opening player allowed to pass? What happens if all players pass?

The first player may pass, as well as any other player. If all players pass, the player to the left of the previous first player becomes the new first player.

Also, don't forget that the first player must bid at least $1,000 to stay in the bidding. There are no bids of "zero". And that bidding continues clockwise around the table... once you pass, you are out of it, but it can go around as many times as needed until only one player has not passed.

Great! Thanks for the quick response. So far, I've only been able to play 2 player games (should change today) so this was coming up freqently.
