If you want to play Live Werewolf, this is probably the way to go.

We had a sizeable group in the GeekChat earlier tonight and played mutliple games. The groups are gone now but we got some good games in. But the lag in GeekChat is can get pretty bad. We all noticed it so a few of us figured IM would be a good way to go about it. It will also make it easier to start a game whenever the people are there because it will be easy to contact anyone who is online. Further advantages are that we can each have our own color and font for text and that you can look at the older posts.

PM me to get my MSN.

Don't worry if you don't have a hotmail account or don't want to give your account out. Feel free to create a new Hotmail account just for Werewolf if you want.

So how does this work, Royal? You add all of us and then invite us if we're online, and then we can add each other?

Or is there some super sneaky way to create an MSN group so that we're all automagically there?

Originally, yes.

But as I'm always up for improvement...

This is a good idea, and I'm enacting it now. A private group, so you'll still need to PM me and I'll add you and add you to this group as well.

Thanks for the suggestion.

I don't have IM. I liked doing the games over geekchat because other geeks would wander in and watch a game and then play themselves. When you start getting lag just refresh and that seems to take care of it.

I played three games on that same day, after wandering in, and in two of those games lag created a mislynch and harmful post for the bad guys, thus a lost game. I think it would be prudent to try games on MSN and more in GeekChat before rendering any sort of decision.

I wonder if there could be a thread, that we could subscribe to so we are e-mailed when a live game starts. Maybe schedule a game.

I would prefer geek chat.....

I'd love to play, but I think the timezone difference would make it unfeasible. I can play between noon BGG and 4PM BGG.

Re: The LIVE Werewolf Group (Please Read!) 10 and counting!
guyhill, copying this from the other thread. I was suggesting 3pm bgg time. if you tell me what time that is for you, i'll add that to the set of times.

These times are BGG time / Australian Eastern Daylight Savings Time / UK time so will change in another month or so when the US and UK start Daylight Savings and we stop

BGG Aus UK NL

12n 5am 6pm 7pm
1pm 6am 7pm 8pm
2pm 7am 8pm 9pm
3pm 8am 9pm 10pm <-- this could be promising.
4pm 9am 10pm 11pm <-- or this
5pm 10am 11pm 12m
6pm 11am 12m 1am
7pm 12n 1am 2am
8pm 1pm 2am 3am
9pm 2pm 3am 4am
10pm 3pm 4am 5am etc
11pm 4pm 5am
12m 5pm 6am
1am 6pm 7am
2am 7pm 8am
3am 8pm 9am
4am 9pm 10am 11am <-- this also promising if US players are keen
5am 10pm 11am
6am 11pm 12n
7am 12m 1pm
8am 1am 2pm
9am 2am 3pm
10am 3am 4pm
11am 4am 5pm

Definitely not unfeasible. I am often on between those times myself (albeit I also have a class or two that genereally happen during those hours as well).

Also, by doing it this way, you will be easily see when there are enough players online to play a game of werewolf.

The more players who sign up, the more often a group of players will connect and find the right time.

3pm bgg time is 10pm for me; that time would work out fine. We are on Central European Time, which is 1 hour later than GMT. Daylight saving time will start in the Netherlands at the same time as in the UK, so with DST it will still be 1 hour later here than in the UK.

Edit: I just found out that Daylight Savings Time is not the correct spelling

'kay.

I just replied in the Full Moon Club thread suggesting we give this a go this weekend, at 3pm BGG Saturday. (Actually I would prefer 4pm BGG Friday but I guess that cuts out the US based people). I'm suggesting we call it a chat rather than a formal scheduled game so we can sort out where to meet, maybe when, etc.

Re: The LIVE Werewolf Group (Please Read!) 12 and counting!
if it moves off geekchat, then we should all get skype, and actually talk.

skype is free and allows group talk and i think also lets you just pick a subset of entire group to talk to (so mod could talk to 2 wolves at once).

one problem is if multiple people try talking at same time, but that's a problem on a telephone or in a real room too.

i haven't used skype in over a year so maybe it's different now.

does the msn messenger thing have some group voice talking feature ?

Re: The LIVE Werewolf Group (Please Read!) 12 and counting!
After having played and watch a few of these live games I think a general rule is in order that unlimited PM's between players is allowed. The basic game (even the 5 player one with villager, seer, wolf, sorc, hunter) is barely a game at all when you're just typing it real time. Claim, counter-claim, who can type the most in all caps or different colors...

The PBEM game gets past this by introduction complex mechanics that put some real deduction and role play into the game. The RT game needs something of it's own to get past the lack of real life cues. Remember way back in the beginning the first 5 player PBEM games allowed unlimited PM's, from what I read that's what really made them work. Eventually PBEM games got away from unlimited PM's because it shifts the action behind the scenes and makes for a boring read but that's not a factor in a RT game.

So, for all real time werewolf players on geekchat consider this my appeal for a blanket rule allowing unlimited PM's between players.

Definitely sounds like a well thought-out idea. We'll have to try this in some of our games.

I agree that 5 player is very chaotic and barely a game. But it IS better than nothing!

The general idea is to increase the number of players so we can play bigger games.

Also, each game is run according to how the players and the mod of each game choose to play it at that time. But all game critique is definitely welcomed!

Thanks!

Yes, unlimited PMs in 5 player is important to making it work.

The last time I posted a response we were only at a total of 16 players.

Now we have a whopping 22 players !

And we're still growing!! Come join us.
