Sacramento's new game convention, ConQuest SAC, will be here in
eight weeks. This convention will feature all genres of gaming:
Euro Board and Card Games, Historical Board Games, Historical
Minatures, Science Fiction and Fantasy Miniatures, Role Playing
Games, RPGA sessions, and Collectible Card and Miniature Games.

If you want to attend for the whole weekend, you can save money by
pre-registering. By pre-registering, a four day badge can be
purchased for $40. After March 31, a four day badge will cost $45.
Additionally, if you pre-register by March 15, you will receive 2
personalized dice. We also have deals available for families.
Check out the information at www.conquestsac.com.

Additionally, GM's are still needed to run events in all areas.
With a minimum of 8 hours volunteered, you will qualify to have your
registration fee reimbursed. Volunteering to GM is a great way to
make sure that your favorite game is offered at the convention. To
volunteer to run a game, go to the web site and click on the Event
Submission button.

If you are interested in GM'ing a board game, please look at the
Gaming Schedule on the web site. You will find several games that
currently have ConQuest Staff listed as the GM. If you would like
to run any of these games, please e-mail the Board Game Coordinator,
Kevin Ellingson, at boardgames.cqsac@gmail.com. If you want to run
one of these games, but not at the time currently scheduled, please
contact Kevin and let him know what time you would prefer to run one
of these games.

Whether as a participant or as a volunteer GM, we look forward to
you helping us make the first ConQuest SAC a great success.

I've been living in Sacramento since 1979 and AFAIK Conquest SAC is the FIRST general gaming convention ever hosted in Sacramento. It's about time! I wouldn't miss it for anything!

I'll be running a few games at Conquest SAC:

Thursday Night: Twilight Struggle
Friday: Euro-style card games
Saturday: The First World War & Winds of Plunder
Sunday: Winds of Plunder

I'm really looking forward to our first local convention. I hope the con is successful enough to become an annual fixture on the convention circuit.

I'm looking forward to it, although I don't know how many days I'll be able to attend. I might be able to "skip classes" on Friday, but that's pretty iffy. Hopefully, I can talk the whole family into going down to Sac for the weekend, leave them with friends, and escape for Saturday or Sunday.

The pickings on Sunday look pretty thin, though. Also, will there be any space for "pick-up games" or will it all simply be by schedule? Looks like I'd get to try "Winds of Plunder" though!

If you want to play something that's not on the schedule, they'll have to kick you out.

No! No! No! No! No!
JUST KIDDING!!! laugh

At every convention I have been to, including Con Quest SF and LA, there is a specific "open gaming" area. Almost always, there is no problem playing an pick up board game in the board game area. In theory, a scheduled event would take precedence if it is very crowded (which would be a problem we'd love to have on the first year!), but those times are very rare.

Some people play mostly open games at a convention, rather than scheduled events. They main thing is to enjoy yourself playing the games you want to play.

I played a demo of it a couple of years ago and I hope it gets published soon.

I hope to meet you there! I am GMing Age of Steam, Giant Settlers, Carabande and Battle Cry/Memoir '44/C&C Ancients.

It's "Made the Cut", but now it's in that P500 Limbo area -- trying to climb high enough in the queue of other games that Made the Cut to warrant a print slot. I'm hoping folks who are interested in this one, but who prefer to try before they buy, will take a look and give it a try.

Have any variant rules been added for Giant Settlers, or is this still the basic game on a huge 3-D board?

As one of the staff members, I can state that there most definitely will be a designated open gaming area.

Additionally, as Richard indicated, you can often use the space in the board gaming area for pick-up games, assuming the scheduled events are not using all the tables.

I have ships for Seafarer's and pieces for Cities & Knights. I have set ups for a bout 7 or so scenarios from Seafarers or Das Buch.

Yes, Amtrak via the Capitals. Looks like ~$40 round trip, and they're fun too. I guess a cab from the train station to the Red Lion Inn, but maybe a bus?

Also, you might spot someone here who would carpool.

Another option for SF - Sacto without a car is Greyhound.

Both the bus & train stations are in Downtown and you'd probably have take a taxi to the hotel. But the hotel isn't that far ~ 10 miles or less.

Been there done that. Greyhound is an option, but come on -- we're gamers. We like trains, not busses. bluetrainredtrainbluetrain

And believe me, the Capitals are way more fun than gray-dogging it. sheep
