If a special trump card is led...

1. Is there a suit for the hand?

1a. If yes, is it the suit that of the first card played with a suit?

or,

2. Is the suit the special trump card and must other players follow by playing one if they have one?

or,

3. There is no suit which needs to be followed and any other player with a special trump card need not play it.

When a trumpet (or shield) card is the first card led to a trick, we allow each successive player to play any card in his hand. We do not require everyone to play shield cards, if they have them, and we do not require anyone to follow anyone else's suit for that hand.
