FYI...I inquired via email whether Peter would be reprinting the game anytime soon. Peter replied that a bigger German publisher would be reprinting the game "hopefully autumn this year." Good news for people looking for this game!

This game would really benefit from a high quality production.

Thanks, MM! This is good news. I learned this game over New Year's weekend and liked it quite a bit. The areas where it has a high luck factor correspond to areas where archaeology really is "a shot in the dark", and gives the players decisions that seem comparable to the real-world strategic choices of archaeologists in the themed timeframe.

A bigger game publisher could produce a more "standard" and more durable set of components at a cheaper price, and distribute through an established network of retail chains, game stores, and websites. This would mean the hobby won't be limited to a few hundred copies owned by relatively well-to-do people who snagged it at the start of the convention.

Any more new on this? I just got to play the other night, and I really liked the game. It was completely different than I expected, but it was very fun. My wife would love it, so I would really like to get my hands on this game.

Peter made it sound like it wouldn't come out until this Fall at the earliest. Maybe someone will announce it for Essen...

And from what I hear, it could use some rule changes as well! I don't know 1st hand, just know 4 members of my gaming group played it and it generated moans for weeks. See Josh's session report at http://www.boardgamegeek.com/thread/86161

Sweet deal. I've been contemplating biting the bullet and buying it at a premium. Now I don't have too. I can wait for a better production verison of it. meeple

I wrote to Queen with questions about their version of the game, and the PR person said:

"Release-Date will be 2007 and that is all I can say about at the moment. I'm sorry but we are working on the game and I do not know what will be changed or if anything will be changed.

Just let it be a big surprise."

Re: Reprint coming from "bigger German publisher"
Sorry for raising this thread from the dead, but I feel compelled to provide a sense of closure for anyone who ends up reading this.

The game was re-implemented, with some rule changes, as Thebes.
